Thank you hydriot for your sympathy and understanding.

Actually, faithful,

now I´ve read the whole thread and it makes me feel sad. I can neither understand, why you feel offended, nor why you feel it necessary to use such kind of offending language. If my replies here had been edited for such reason by Jarrko, I would really feel even more sad and ashamed. As I deal professionally with different languages I know, that offending words never sound offending in the ears of a non-native speaker, even though the very same words have a very offending effect on those, who do. And that has nothing to do with the level of proficiency one is able to achieve in a foreign language. When I read your words I thought, that many of the things you wrote, were meant kindly and sympathetic, even though it obviously seems hard to take the disappointment that mr. Cohen might not come to Switzerland this year.
But what you thought were kind and cool, maybe even funny words were received in a quite different way by other members of this forum - and actually I felt offended, too - even though you most probably didn´t mean to do so.

A good tip is to translate the words into your mother-tongue, before using them. ;-) If you then feel offended, don´t use them in a foreign language either.

So this - and other threads - are developing to become arguments and offences in stead of kind and sympathetic discussions, comments and informations.

This will hurt all of us - including you - therefore I also would like to urge you to consider your choice of words next time.

Anyhow, I cant´t make myself believe, that mr. Cohen would approve reading these kind of messages - so maybe we should delete this whole thread?

The useful informations we could place elsewhere and then nobody will feel hurt - neither will you, faithfully.

I really do hope, that you won´t read this message as an offence, too - it really is not meant to be!

Kind regards,

Amrei

As everyone can easily see, I'm not posting very much in this forum. But I read it constantly, and I think, I'm not the only one who prefers that kind of participation. But for this time, I like to post something and thank you, Amrei, for your post. To everyone posting here: Don't let this get as awful as most of the communicaton on the web. Reading this forum has become a wonderful routine to me, please keep it as gentle as it was.

Leonard Cohen is well, he's giving great concerts. What else to demand?

I would like to echo the sentiments of Matthias1234 that I think were so well said: "Leonard Cohen is well, he's giving great concerts. What else to demand?"

I too am a long-time and regular reader of the forum, but have seldom felt the need to make a post. The forum and L.C. Files are great websites, and it is somewhat frustrating to read the angry and/or coarse tone adopted in some of the recent discussions. I suppose though that things are likely to settle down after the tour when some of the new voices move on to other interests. :?

@ Amrei: Now I'm not really sure, if you were referring to me or if you were simply using the word, which is my name.
Just in case, you were referring to me, I feel the need to respond as if I was addressed. So if it's about that joke, I think I made clear that it was a joke by adding the explanation in brackets plus using a smiley. Aside from that, I repeated that I didn't want to offend our user with the name faithfully.
Anyway, there was nothing important in my posts and only in a few others, so I guess your idea about deleting isn't bad.

A question for Jarkko

Jarkko,
sadly I won't be able to attend any of the scheduled shows on the U.S. West Coast because of a previously taken commitment overseas... and it kind of breaks my heart.
Also, the few shows that theoretically I'd be able to attend while in the country will be so far from where I live to be completely out of my budget.
Do you think that there's even one single chance that LC can come back to the Bay Area sometimes in the Fall or later?
By the way, we also share some friends, Michael and Suzanne, from SF...
Thanks for your time and efforts,
Andrew

Actually, i think everyone knows here that the only person being offensive is the person who's name begins with F.............. if he is only five years old then I forgive him, he has a lot to learn.
Leonard is 74 years old! He has been so generous to the whole world by doing this tour and if we got to see him just ONCE it was a privilege.

Actually!

Of course I did not address you at all - I am very sorry, that I expressed myself in such a way, so you could misunderstand.

I just wanted to help changing the tone back to normal and also make everybody realize, that offending words spoken in a foreign language probably might not be meant offending and explain to the "offender", why his words are misunderstood and which effect they cause...

So maybe - if we all can see the potential of misunderstanding in this thread - everybody can calm down and keep the tone as sympathetic as usual. :)

Hello,
I am from the Czech Republic, I go here often, but my English is not very good, so here I am afraid to write .. now I found the courage.
It was a holiday last year, when Mr. Cohen had a concert in Prague and of course we would like to see again here, but we are under the rule of the communists learned modesty and understand that you also like to welcome them and we want to .. we just need for Leonard to go somewhere else .. but if someone has someone like you, and overcoming obstacles ;-)
I wish all the beautiful spring, the sun above the head in the soul :!:
