You probably think this song is about you....
Witty owl...I think there should be a separate section for us who like LC's music/poetry but are not so crazy about it. Although, there was a period of about 18 months that I thought LC was the greatest songwriter ever and that Songs of Love and Hate was the finest album ever made. It seems I have lost touch with that person....I wonder whatever happened to him.
As a former science university student myself, I probably share some of your daughter's agenda and ambitions. Never mind the stereotypes, science is an entirely creative endeavor.

Kush, have you lost touch with the person that penned "Songs of Love and Hate" or have you lost touch with the person (yourself ) who so admired him? Its just that your comment seems a little ambiguous to my way of reading it.
It would be good to find forums on other songwriters but this is the only one I have found that maintains an acceptable degree of sincerity. (even with the spasmodic bickering) Can you or any one else point me in other directions?
Cheers Witty Owl.

I was referring to myself. It was probably something in your previous post that elicited that response from me
. Nevertheless, you have given me food for thought...
p.s. There are a bunch of forums/shrines to the respective musical deities. This is as good as any. It might be interesting to look for a general forum not aligned to an individual artist but to a musical genre.

Kush, science instead of being a creator is an attempt to analyse the mystical and the magic, that which is all around us.
In looking inwards again, you will recapture the magic of the Songs of Love and Hate album and the realisation that it never went away...............

A good forum is hard to find. And that is the truth.
Some are too crowded (you come back the next day, and you need two hours to go trough all new posts), some are too abandoned (you don't see new posts for weeks)...
And you can discuss any music you like right here, you just have to make it look like it's about Leonard.
For example, you can open a thread (in LC music, it needs new subjects desperatly):
- How does songwriter's age show in his music? (then we can talk about Dylan, Morrison, Lightfoot, or who ever we desire)
- Does strong music distract from lyrics?
- Is Leonard right for refusing improvisation from his musicians? (Here we can discuss early jazzy Morrison and jazz in general - i just love jazz)

Open threads, I'll be sure to join them.

hi Lizzytysh!!!
thanks for answering to my thought!!
my music taste is really extremely widely spread between all kinds of styles and artists,i like this so-called "todays" music nearly as much as the "older" ones...most of my-aged people don`t like LC for example, but i`m a big fan of him,,,though,i do admit,i sometimes even listen to some justin timberlakes or whatever that kind...still,,,noone can beat LC !!!
ps-i have read a lot of your thoughts from the forum, and i think that we have so much in common
someone even told that your birthday is at the same day as mine ...
future soulmates ?

a tear is like a magnet- it always makes another tear to follow

Yeah, Witty Owl....that's been the dreaded question for me. I never like it when I've introduced [or tried] someone to Leonard and they preface it with, "What kind of music is it?" It's like I'm required to pigeonhole it before they decide if they want to listen. Whatever I might call "Sixties"/folk/story song/protest/love songs/whatever music, Leonard remains outside of it. If you say "poetry into song," they presume Rod McKuen [about whom someone was quoted as saying, "He's a poor man's Leonard Cohen"
]. I've always felt that Leonard's music has an even [much] deeper purpose and impact than the generally-recognized ones of music. It's a dilemma.
