I'm quite relaxed about all that travel stuff actually...I have my plane tickets and my first three nights to stay..perhaps I will buy that multi country train ticket, but I'm not expecting to use it around the cities, and when I get there, some discussion with locals (and you)should have me figuring out the best way to do things....Interesting what you say about Madrid to Barcelona, I had thought that I might get to there (Madrid) and then take that faster one South..As for booking a venue for us..I am a little concerned as well that in fact this(NZ) interloper from over the seas has taken over this forum thread!..the poor (Portuguese) locals who started this discussion may be thinking that in fact I talk far too much  I would hate it to be thought that I am being impolite to the Lisbon people by trying to organise a venue for something in their home town when I have never even been there.. .Shall we just relax for now and wait and see if someone who knows the area and venue a bit better can come up with a suggestion :?: Or tell us if the pastry shop is a good idea or not... ... Perhaps you and I can exchange telephone numbers privately closer to the time as I will be getting myself something more suitable for "roaming " in Europe in the next few months..( Regarding any travel plans ,There is a part of me that says I live such a scheduled life here that I'm happy to just arrive in Portugal, see the concert and blow with the wind as each day takes me....as long as I get to Firenze to friends and then Rome by the required date in August. :) .. ;-) ...Cheers Magda :)

Hi New Zealander
A curious spin off to your inquiry about Jennifer Warnes--I went to her site and found that letter that I posted here. Now Jarkko has had an enquiry about the man who wrote that letter (about the wolf) from a newspaper reporter who wants to get in touch with the writer. I received an note from Jarkko to myself and Dr. Kim Sol.ez ( who is arranging the International Leonard Cohen Event in Edmonton this year) asking if we knew the man who wrote the letter on Jennifer Warnes' site. We don't. But it will be interesting to hear if they ever contact him. I am a volunteer with the Cohennights Arts Society in Edmonton, so I sometimes get interesting phone calls and e-mails asking questions about Leonard or Leonard related issues. In case you don't know, this website is responsible for having organized a number of Leonard Cohen events over the years, to which people travel to listen to the words and music of Leonard Cohen as interpreted by various local artists, in different countries. It has been held in Berlin, New York, Montreal, Hydra, and perhaps other places and quite a few members from this group have attended. I have not been so fortunate, and this year, when it is being held in Edmonton, you and I will be in Portugal. Sigh...it sounds like this year will be just an amazing line up here too, but I know my Edmonton friends understand that I need to be listening to Leonard in Portugal.

My husband and I are big Lenny fans.......we have just booked tickets for the concert in Lisbon. We used Ticketmaster and went to their international site which took us to ticketline.pt.........tickets @ 35 euros each .......significantly less than some of the other sites I looked at (one quoted £300 for two tickets!!)

True there is not much info on the venue but I saw some chat about it on this site.......seems the worst is that you may need to stand for the whole concert in a very hot Portuguese July............Lenny - you're worth it!!

karen - welcome :)
don't be too concerned about the temperatures. since the venue is right beside the Tejo river, we stand pretty good chances of being granted with a refreshing breeze. anyhow, a thin jacket will do.
see you in Lisbon,
magda

Hi Karen
Glad to see another member of our merry group. I was worried about the venue too, but I have settled in and am
just grateful to be going. --I add my query about where you are from? Just curious.
And you call him Lenny! Kind of reminds me of when we met some people who had encountered a grizzly and they told us there was a Griz on the trail we were taking. We wondered how they had earned the right to shorten its name that way...By the way, we saw the griz and camped out overnight in the area--a highlight of my years of mountain hiking. The next day we returned to our car by the same trail and met a tall, well-dressed, white bearded gentleman at the head of the trail. He asked if we had seen the grizzly. When we told him we had, he informed us that there was a sign in the ranger's station warning everyone to stay away from the area. Oh!No wonder we had the campground all to ourselves! He said that he had never seen a grizzly and had spent many years hiking the back country in the hope that he would. In fact, after he went on at length, I began to wonder if he was delivering some kind of message to me. I guess by camping out in the area I had earned the right to call it a griz. You must have seen Leonard before.

Hi again...
Yeahh, Lisbon is real, real hot in July but the venue is close to Tejo River so maybe a refreshing breeze can blows :) About Belem Pastries they are delicious believe me, I think this place ( Pasteis de Belêm Café) would be a good solution for the meet before the concert too ...for foreigners friends if they want going to ear some fado they can try Bairro Alto and Alfama (the night before LC concert)...those places also have a very nice typical restaurants... ;-)
Coliseu dos Recreios Lisboa 1988, Passeio Marítimo de Algés Lisboa 2008, Pav. Atlântico Lisboa 2009, Pav. Atlântico Lisboa 2010 (Meet Cohen at a cafe on the main Lisbon's avenue on the concert's eve), Pav. Atlântico Lisboa 2012

It must be getting to me--last night i had another leonard dream. In this one we were all in a small venue, and the audience were going up to have pictures taken with Leonard. I waited until the end and was rewarded for my patience by having only one other woman on stage with Leonard and I. However that did not prevent me from walking around and giving him a big hug. It was most satisfying to do so even if only in dreams.
I rarely remember dreams but since I started coming to this site have had several very clear dreams featuring Leonard. Always very peaceful and joyful.

St Theresa: how I envy you the possibility of having your dreams programmed with Leonard!
I have only nightmares of me being too small to see him when I go to the concert...

New Zealander: re: meeting - I haven't figured out yet what time would be most convenient for the meeting. I thought it would be nice to have a coffee or two and then go together to the venue, just to stick together and have better fun. Anyhow, what I don't know yet how early one should go to the concert to get a place with visibility... I will try to arrive in Lisbon in the early afternoon, so let's say at 4 -5 pm will be available for a meeting.

A question to Blue Bird: do you know whether those fado places you mention are open after the concert? Or is there a nice place close to the venue when we could go for a dinner?
Cheers, magda

I'm not sure about Alfama but in Bairro Alto (one of the Lisbon Hills) most certainly. LC will probably finish around midnight and that would be a good time to listen to some fados. For dinner after the concert I suggest Docas in Alcantara, it's a relaxing place near the Tejo River after Belém... :)

Hi Magda

I know those dreams have surprised me--I do not regularly have dreams with such clear detail. In one I awoke, and it felt so real, I just smiled and smiled. I have never seen him in concert in all the years I have loved him, so I guess I just had to create it. Perhaps once I see him the dreams will stop. Or perhaps we will somehow meet him, who knows. Stranger things have happened. My husband tried to book one hotel in Lisbon, and got as far as having a message say that confirmation will be e-mailed. No confirmation came, so we speculated tthat perhaps Leonard's band had taken over the whole hotel and we were being bumped. I am such a day dreamer.
