I am sure that the last time we visited Hydra in 2007 we got an earlier crossing from Pireaus, at about 7.00 or 7.30 in the morning.
There is nothing showing on all the ferry sites earlier than 8.00 this year.
Does anyone locally know if there are other companies running ferry services other than what has been mentioned here already?

In recent years besides the flying coffins there was only ever the one daily return ferry trip from Piraeus to Hydra but that has now been axed . It always left Piraeus at 8am and was always the preferred method of crossing over to Hydra with the early morning sun, beautiful fresh air and the wonderful sea views
The flying coffins now have the monoply...so you will now have no option but to climb into the dimly lit tin box... struggle to stow your luggage..then sit down on one of the broken/grubby seats...hold on tight...and try to peer out of the dirty windows for the occasional view of the Aegean..enjoy:-)

Not this year Margaret. We used to have the conventional at 8:00 and 7, 7:30 a.m in the weekends and local people tried hard to bring it back with protests and blockade of the harbour with no luck so far. There are no other companies running ferry services to Hydra this year.

Thank you for that information, Ken and Sophia.
No point in getting to the harbour early then

Greetings from the Internet Cafe on Hydra! It's pretty hot here 32-34 C. A lot has happened on the island. The old prison in Kamini has been re-built to a wonderful new restaurant that is almost ready to open (hopefully later this week). There were 30 men working in the garden today and furnishing the area.
Nickolas has moved from Roloi to Portofino Restaurant (at the Dolphins) but we keep the original plan and use Roloi as the meetig point. The son and nephew of Nickolas are now hosting the Roloi.

Hi all,
someone has an idea how much a taxi can cost from the Airport to Pireaus ?
7 years ago I took one with my friend Marinella and we paid double as much as the usual fee should be. So its just to know more or less what to accept.
If we are on time we can use the bus, if the airplane is a bit late we have to take the taxi.
Would be pleased for an indication.
Jarkko and Eija thanks for your informations. So we can take out heavy clothes from our suitcase

Enjoy it , see you soon

Dear Sophia,
thank you very much for your precious informations.( We paid something like 50 Euro during the daytime in 2002).
But things like this happen in Italy too

, so your information does help us really . We can clear it with the taxidriver before .
Our dolphin leaves at 19.00 and we should arrive arround 16.00, so we will see what's the best.
We look forward to meet you and our friends on Hydra , see you
ciao
Andrea

Ohhhh... it's official now. I'm lost in melancholy and have double-checked the date on Jarkko and Eija's posting, and the new information on Nickolas is certainly a different direction. Reading Andrea's and Sophia's postings just adds to the melancholy, imagining all of you there. I can only sincerely say enjoy yourselves. I know you will, but I still wish you well.
