kokenpere - thanks for the Jackson Browne version of "P.F. Sloan"...I've never heard that before, and it suits his voice (pity it's not a studio recording). I met P.F. Sloan when he played a gig at The Luminaire, a few years ago. I asked him what he thought of Jimmy Webb's "P.F. Sloan". He told me that it was a while before he heard it, but he thought it was "a beautiful song...one of his best".

kwills - I'm glad you've added the Percy Faith tune to this thread. I've always enjoyed hearing that, and it should cheer people up after my recent "songs with a death theme" post!

The collection by the Association, "Just The Right Sound" has a studio recording of PF Sloan.

If memory serves, Michelle Lee had a recording of it in the late 60's; but, I seriously doubt if it's available.

The Association passed on Mac Arthur Park which was presented to them as part of a more ambitious work than an earlier song cycle by Jimmy Webb that contained this:

…which was not released as a single but a near identical version was later a hit for the Brooklyn Bridge whose lead singer, Johnny Maestro, earlier had a hit a song with another group:

I was just having a rewind on this thread (thanks for starting this one, John - lots of good stuff) and came across the mention of John Leyton back on the first page. I'd vaguely heard that he's playing at the Amersham Rock and Roll Club on April 10th - in a Joe Meek tribute evening - and, believe or not, it's SOLD OUT already Looking at their website http://www.amershamrocknrollclub.co.uk/ it looks like quite a lively little place tucked away in suburban Amersham - (it's all us babyboomers, I guess!)

Mordy - Thanks for spotting the John Leyton gig...I guess it's baby boomers plus a handful of Morrisey fans that have made this a sell-out! I see that Leyton is playing other gigs too...I may try to get into one of them (guess there may be a few returns nearer the time). I rather regret not going to see him when he played with Freddy Cannon at the London Palladium, about ten years ago.

Cheers John, for Scott Walker...I love his voice.. I am a big fan of Tindersticks ( hence my name) but I always thought Stuart Staples , the lead singer reminded me of Scott , so thanks for that

kwills - I was never the greatest fan of Noddy Nolder's voice, though I did actually see him live, once. In the early Seventies a friend of mine used to buy tickets once a year for the unlikeliest band (to keep a broad view of what was happening) and I got pulled in! I didn't used to like Holder, but not so long ago I read an interview where I thought he came across as a nice bloke.

tinderella - I hadn't heard Tidersticks, but I've scanned a few videos and I can hear that Stuart Staples has a good voice. Personally, I've always thought Colin Vearncombe (of Black) has the closest voice to Scott's. Here's an example:
