Hello! I'm new here and i'm looking for any information about a very obscure and rare song "Mr. Klein", which is probably performed by Leonard Cohen. This song was recorded in 1986 from an ukrainian radiostation in the city of Odessa. After several researches i could only find out it is dedicated to the french movie "Monsieur Klein" from 1976 starring famous french actor Alain Delon. There are two reasons, which makes me think it's a Cohen song: First, singer's voice. Unique and i can't imagine any other artist with a similar voice, even if i tried to search for the artist through google, i couldn't find anyone similar. Second one, if you familiar with the movie, Mr. Klein is a jewish-french businessman and because Leonad Cohen was also jewish, it makes me believe it of it's song even more. Do you have any information about it? Interesting, yes. And a similar style. But ultimately it doesn't really sound like Leonard.

No, that is definitely not Leonard Cohen's voice: the main giveaway is that the singer in the video has a distinctive accent, and his accent is very obvious in how he pronounces the words, thus it is absolutely not Leonard Cohen's voice. Leonard would never sing in a fake accent, and I am from Canada and thus very familiar with Leonard Cohen's accent, and I would not mistake it for the singer in this video.
Another factor to consider is that, although the musical and vocal style in the mystery song is certainly similar to Leonard Cohen's later music, you say that this song originated in the mid 1980s, and Leonard's voice did not sound like that in the mid 1980's, nor did his musical style sound like that at that time: listen to Leonard's "Various Positions" album from 1984, or the "I'm Your Man" album from 1988, and you can hear the difference. It seems to be a mere coincidence that this mid-80's song and its singer sound like some of the later songs by an older Leonard Cohen (and there is still the obviously different accent).

Thank you for your feedback! I was very confused, when i heard it for the first time. I'm also searching through some similar artists voices, but wasn't able to find anything yet. Bear in mind that it is someone for whom English is not his native language— that may help narrow your search a tiny bit. I am afraid that I cannot identify the accent, other than recognizing that it is not a native English speaker, and so I have no suggestions as to where he might be from. Since you heard the song on the radio in Ukraine, perhaps he is from that area, or from another country that was part of the Soviet Union. Good luck on your quest!
