Ten New Songs was already heralded as his last album. And Dear Heather as the final album. So this is the third album in Leonard's trilogy of final albums, apparently. After this he now can be relaxed and release the next one, which contains Born in Chains, Feels So Good, Wither Thou Goes, The Street and other new songs.

If Cohen were to release another studio album after Old Ideas, do you really want it to contain the songs we've all been listening to on YouTube for over a year? I really like Feels So Good, but I'd rather entirely new material. I'm not a big fan of Born in Chains. To be honest, I was a tad disappointed when I saw Lullaby on the track listing for Old Ideas.
Waterbury, CT - May 14, 2009
Las Vegas, NV - Dec 11, 2010 (Final Show of Leonard's 3 year World Tour) INCREDIBLE!
Boston, MA - Dec 15, 2012 (Best L.C. concert I've been to!)

Yes, I do want it to contain those songs. Among other reasons, the studio versions are always quite different from the live versions. I am very eagerly looking forward to hearing the studio version of the amazing, exquisite Lullaby!

 Well said, Tom! Old Ideas is a perfect name for the very last and absolutely final album in this trilogy.
Correct me if I am wrong: now we have to wait for the next series - Grand New Opening Albums, of which the very first should be (logically) named: New Ideas and contain (knowing Leonard's sense of humor) at least Eleven Old Songs.
It's necessary, especially because LC is 77 - still a kid with a crazy dream.

he gave a talk on the isle of wight which i read about too late - perhaps someone has video-recorded it :

“I look forward to returning to the Island to share stories about everyone from Leonard Cohen to Jay-Z and from Seasick Steve to Christine and the Queens as they seized their moment in the gladiator’s ring of the Later…studio.”
