hello there, and what a pleasure to see someone spending energy on me. i am so grateful! people occasionally write complimentary things about some of these pictures, and i tend to wonder if i deserve it. they are usually drawn without a lot of care, and other people's sketches always seem far superior. perhaps that is a good thing, though - because if a person believes their work is good then maybe there is less to strive for.

anyway, it is heart-warming to receive praise - so thank you for that! this week there has been a lot of celebrations due to national day (17/5) so i have been away a lot. today is ascension day, a big norwegian holiday with all shops closed - so i only visited my turkish friend, mehmet, who lives 30 minutes away. then i came home and watched a finnish film called 'sisu'. jarkko the webmaster probably knows about it. if you are a fan of john wick you will surely like it. after that i followed instructions on youtube to make filleted chicken in a special cream sause with garlic, fresh parsley, shallot onion, salt, pepper and nutmeg. absolutely delicious. i'll stick a link down here in case you want to try it. bye for now :)

G, I watched your chicken recipe video. It looks delicious...and easy, so I will be making it for sure. That's a lot of nutmeg, but I like nutmeg, it reminds me of yule-time egg nog.

I am reciprocating with a video about a recipe that is, well, the opposite of easy, but if one is at home in the kitchen and patient, preparing it is worth the effort. And a great excuse for a nice party! The video is from the Stanley Tucci film "The Big Night," which I recommend watching if you have not seen it. The actual Tucci family recipe is available online. We are having friends over next month, and I will be making timpano for the third time. I always commandeer an attendee to bang on the table and recite the lines at the end of the video.

hello again curt, and thank you for allowing me to see this movie clip. pasta has never been a first choice of mine when deciding on a meal, perhaps due to its slimy texture - i am not completely sure. all i know is that it turns my stomach. when dining with friends and they serve fusilli, manicotti, farfalle, etc, i do eat it - but would secretly have preferred a simple bubble and squeak or toad in the hole - or even just a plain spotted dick with treacle if the host had decided on something sweet.

as a guest i know the importance of table manners, of cordiality, hiding one's disappointment when an unappetising dish is placed between one's knife and fork. tact is an essential commodity when socialising, and fortunately that is something i possess in huge quantities - regardless of the occasion. it goes without saying that my behaviour in the company of others always strives to be impeccable. it is well known in my local community that when i walk into a room all who are present become aware that a gentleman is amongst them.

Hmmm, two very different recipes being offered here. I may add some nutmeg to my next cream/white sauce -- the variation in Geoffrey's video would taste great with chickpeas and other veggies (although I'd be inclined to use a lighter cream, preferably sour cream or even just milk). I actually recently ate a meal at a restaurant containing white sauce with nutmeg -- classic béchamel sauce -- which was in an absolutely fabulous vegetarian Greek moussaka -- it is one of my favourite dishes! But, I will definitely pass on the timpano -- I am not a fan of pasta, either.

Hi Geoffrey
I'm sorry to read of your car accident and I hope you did more than survive.
I hope you are uninjured. Phones can be replaced but you cannot.
Stay well!

thank you so much for your concern, alan. it was rush hour, a lot of stress, but neither sarah nor myself got even a scratch. after a lifetime of being good, generous, helping people and never being horrible, i have excellent karma, a guardian angel looking after me, don't forget. the only thing i fail to understand is why i have a little eczema on the one elbow, i never deserved that. it's the reason i avoid wearing short arm t-shirts - so fate does get it wrong sometimes. have tried various ointments, both strong stuff from the doctor and over-the-counter products what the lady in the chemist advised. reminds me of that six word email leonard sent out of the blue: "have you noticed how nothing works!" she ain't no dermatologist, actually not even a qualified pharmacist, but means well poor thing. such thin wrists she has. apologies for spelling sauce wrong earlier. in norwegian it's 'saus' - so i mixed the two. this afternoon my new phone will be ready for collection, i can pick it up on the way to juanita who said she has got a surprise for me. right now it's time to go to the bathroom, look in the mirror and say my daily affirmations. i can write them below so that you can try it too if you need picking up.
------------
affirmations:
i accept who i am, i matter, i can make a difference, i believe in myself, good things are coming my way, i'm proud of myself, i've got this, it's ok not to know everything, i am proud of myself, everything is ok, i am beautiful inside and out, there is no one better than myself, i am doing my best, i have people who love me, i am a problem solver, i can always improve, i deserve to be happy.
-----------
hope you are well, and that you are still happy with your picture of the little island. today is going to be a wonderful day. dentist appointment on 15th june, every nine months she gives me a check-up, so that is a cloud on the horizon, but it's still a long way off so i don't need to worry about that too much just yet. not many of us are a hundred percent carefree, some people have much worse things to worry about. i won't let it suffocate the happiness that occupies the greater part of my right frontal cortex. juanita has a little disc-shaped device that she calls a robot that keeps moving around her home on its own and takes away any dust it finds. it even goes over the little thresholds that divide each room.

note:
people on another website frequently ask if these pictures are for sale. sending stuff uses a lot of energy, i am quite lazy, and have little interest in business. it does happen, if i am in the right mood, but don't really see the point. why would anyone want to own one of my pictures?

exactly 10 minutes before my bus was due I had remembered an urgent Dental Appointment. The Surgeon, messing with implants, explained that not only would he use a chisel but "are you ok if I use a hammer as well?" What a strange sensation when the hammer smashed against the ivory. I was pleased he did this no more than 8 times.

i don't know why it is, but sketches of people, especially their body language and facial close-ups, seems to reveal more about the human condition than photographs. a simple but fascinating hobby. here follows a recent study of individuals going about their business.
