I have been fortunate to attend the concert on 15th August. Despite a late start and a shorter setlist I look back on a great evening. It was my first LC concert and I am hooked.
It all came together that night, sound, vision and warmt!

Dear all,

During the performance of "I can't forget" Leonard spoke some words (parlando) in French.
I guess it was something like "jamais je ne t'oublierai" Did anyone hear the exact words?

Thanks! Francis

hi there
A la claire fontaine is a lullaby sung for the babies here in France, what comes after what LC said is 'j'ai trouve l'eau si belle que je m'y suis baigne' (I found the water so appealing that I bathed) (une fontaine is a fountain)
He did say ''il y a longtemps que je t'aime, jamais je ne t'oublierai'' as a closing sentence to many of his concerts in France (Bercy 2009 notably)
Sorry I can't post videos or photos, my camera is lying even as I type in my rubbish bin, damned useless no good camera!

anyway, it was lovelly meeting you all and I look forward to catching up with you later on the road...

The run for the waltz.

At the start of Take This Waltz during the Gent 18th concert, a lot of people made a run for the front of the stage, positioning themselves between the first row and the fence between the arena and the stage. It was as if someone gave a signal and everybody who received the signal made a dash for the stage. Security did not intervene.
As a result everybody in the first 10 to 12 rows had to stand up because their view was blocked by this crowd. I can imagine that people with front row tickets were not really happy having to stand up for the last 8 songs of the show.

This happened at all the Ghent concerts - earlier and earlier as the week went on. On Saturday night, the surge started when a group of people came running up the centre aisle from the back. A number of people on the front row saw what was happening and made their own dash for the "barrier" but there would have been others at the front who did not know what was happening and who were left behind.

People usually stood at the front for the encores on the 2008-10 tours and it is clear from Leonard's reaction that he loves having the audience right up to the stage and singing along lustily to So Long Marianne. However, before Ghent the rush to the front always took place at the beginning of the encores, as Leonard came back on stage. Personally I think it was ridiculous - and unfair to other audience members - that the run to the stage in Ghent took place so early, before the end of the second set, at the beginning of Take This Waltz. It was a long time to stand and some people (including myself) struggle to stand for so long.

Interestingly, no one was allowed to stand at the front for the first two Ghent shows in 2010. It was only on the third show that the audience was allowed to surge forward during the encores. This time it was as if security had the discussion in advance "what shall we do if ..." and had decided in conjunction with tour management that it would be OK if people were allowed to stand for the encores. The only time security intervened was when one young man cleared the barrier and tried to scale the 7 foot high stage on Saturday night.

That happens on almost every Cohen show - the encores are standing, with people packed in front of the stage ion the fence. I don't see anything wrong about it and LC tolerates it.

I agree there nothing wrong with it if it happens during the last 2 or 3 songs of the show but if it happens with still 25% of the show to go (like in Gent) then I agree with Mabeanie1.
Try to look at it from the point of view of those people who paid a lot of money for front rows seats. May be you will then see why people think it is unfair. As Mabeanie1 wrote "It was a long time to stand and some people struggle to stand for so long".
Frank.
