I wrote on Dino Soldo's facebook page a few months ago suggesting that they play Memories on this tour. He told me that he hadn't learned it but said he would; so hopefully this appears! This song would be a riot, I think, and I can totally hear Dino owning this song!

otherwise

There is a War
The Letters
One of Us Cannot Be Wrong
Night Comes On

I could go on and on....

Dino could actually sing Memories as a regular thing in the set list (like The Webbs and Sharon's solos) on this next leg of the tour.

This needs to happen.

Among many - certainly Lullaby.
I think that L. could have some lighter moments if he did "Do I Have To Dance All Night" this time around - but I trust him to have better taste than me - so we'll see what he chooses. :)

annmarie the "sally gardens"?????????????
In my defence annmarie I would argue the case for my choice, given, as I have read elsewhere in this thread, people would happily go and listen to LC read a train timetable.

The story goes that walking near the river at Ballisodare Yeats heard an old woman singing a song which he then, to paraphrase another great Irish writer, 'forged in the smithy of his soul' and despite the words consequently being mangled in many a stage-Irish rendition they are beautiful and tender lines.

In a field by the river my love and I did stand,
And on my leaning shoulder she laid her snow-white hand.
She bid me take life easy, as the grass grows on the weirs;
But I was young and foolish, and now am full of tears.

Most of his set over the years has, not unsurprisingly, been drawn from his own writing. He does, however, sometimes add a song that has some link to time and place. I do not know how he came by the choice of Kevin Barry for Dublin in 1972, but it was obviously a reflection of those dark days. I am immensely glad we have moved on from that place.

I think an elegiac song with resonances of Yeats, Sligo and Lissadell sung by Leonard Cohen would be a perfect acknowledgement of this time and place.

I rest my case m'lady.
when she came back she was nobody's wife . . .

Marsha & Esther
I third the motion on 'Because Of'. Preferably in Sligo - the females in the audience would drown out Sharon and the Webbs in the chorus

Blue Alert (With Leonard singing)

Yes, Blue Alert would be perfect - and Half the Perfect World ... how erotic could that be! Imagine these two songs performed with this wonderful and deep voice.

I would suggest, by order of priority:

- Avalanche

- The Gypsy's Wife / The Stranger Song

- The Faith

- Coming Back to you

All the best

I wouldn't mind to hear him recite

I went out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
from The song of wandering Aengus
when she came back she was nobody's wife . . .
