What a wonderful mix of sounds and colors
thank you for leading me to your garden,
I liked being a bee.

Welcome back Harry S!
(although I think you're just trying to suckle up, in that cute little bee costume...)
Thank you Cateebee – and Happy Summer to you!

Harry, is that a photo of your sister? she is not entirely unattractive.
Re: bee dance
I enjoy this cutely pathetic bee lover."....Wordsworth was my brother. We share one heart. I can watch a bee and a small flower like the morning glory and cry.'
I said: 'Why does you cry, sir?'
"Why, boy? Why? You will know when you grow up. You're a poet, too, you know. And when you're a poet you cry for everything"
V.S. Naipaul: B. Wordsword / collection of short stories: Miguel Street/
But your bewilderment of bee sounds and colours is even more enjoyable.
Of course I´m pathetic, I´ve spent my life getting the most impressive stuff out of the most impressive books. Malcolm Bradbury
Re: bee dance
I still like this
Dear I.F. , are your bees back yet?
my flowers are out the grass in green most of the trees have leaves, yesterday is was 21 bright and sunny but there were no bees - lots of ants though.

What a fun poem! The holly tree at the foot of our drive way is in full pollen mode -- the challenge is to get into the car without letting in a bee. The bees are more busy then usual this spring in West Virginia. We have a record pollen count this spring. Sitting with my mother UNDER the gazebo at her nursing home this week (got that -- UNDER the gazebo?) I ended up with so much pollen in my hair that my usually dark blonde hair looked red. It is beautiful though, and the bees must be laying up enough honey that their hives (and our apiaries) will be enriched for months to come!
Re: bee dance
.. does anyone know what color sable is?.. some sort of reddish-brown perhaps.. (it's a little out of my price range)..imaginary friend wrote:kelly kelly pink olive

Re: bee dance
Hello my darlings, and thank you —
Cate for bringing my garden out of hibernation, and Violet for colouring it, carm for illustrating the narrator, and Gina for the pollen anecdote.
Spring warmth is a lot slower coming to the west coast this year Cate, but little fern fronds are curling, and Hosta leaves are poking (though tightly bound aha!), spent Magnolia blossoms sprinkled around... it all never fails to thrill me. No bees yet though, but plenty of slugs, to whom I show mercy, thanks to you
Anyway, to celebrate Spring (hey, where did Woody go, BTW?) here are two favourite bee/honey poems:
I always eat peas with honey;
I've done it all my life.
It makes the peas taste funny
but It keeps them on my knife.

Arrival of the Bee Box
I ordered this, clean wood box
Square as a chair and almost too heavy to lift.
I would say it was the coffin of a midget
Or a square baby
Were there not such a din in it.
The box is locked, it is dangerous.
I have to live with it overnight
And I can’t keep away from it.
There are no windows, so I can’t see what is in there.
There is only a little grid, no exit.
I put my eye to the grid.
It is dark, dark,
With the swarmy feeling of African hands
Minute and shrunk for export,
Black on black, angrily clambering.
How can I let them out?
It is the noise that appalls me most of all,
The unintelligible syllables.
It is like a Roman mob,
Small, taken one by one, but my god, together!
I lay my ear to furious Latin.
I am not a Caesar.
I have simply ordered a box of maniacs.
They can be sent back.
They can die, I need feed them nothing, I am the owner.
I wonder how hungry they are.
I wonder if they would forget me
If I just undid the locks and stood back and turned into a tree.
There is the laburnum, its blond colonnades,
And the petticoats of the cherry.
They might ignore me immediately
In my moon suit and funeral veil.
I am no source of honey
So why should they turn on me?
Tomorrow I will be sweet God, I will set them free.
The box is only temporary.

.. hi I.F.. yes.. I've deemed this one bronze worthy.. (I just love it).. I'm going to read the Plath one again.. she's interesting to me.. there's that not-so-latent violent sense to some of her poems.. that feeling that you're needing to explore more what her subject actually is.. here it's something hidden.. and as she said.. dangerous..
.. well, I have some banana splits to make before hitting the hay.. [wow.. that might actually be rather, well, either sexually provocative, or just Plath-plain-scary.. depending on how you read a certain recipe on a certain thread]..
... oh.. yellow daffodils are out up here [upstate].. and the apple blossoms are starting.. I have one week, I think, to catch the cherry blossoms in the city.. or maybe more.. if spring is a little late here, as well..
.. (now do I have some chocolate syrup??)
