It is so certainly true, all that you've said, Diana. Thanks for saying it so diplomatically and so well.

Thanks for all the kind words Lizzy, MaryB and amcgee...

amcgee...re the signature. You are so right re Leonard's lyrics. It is almost impossible to select a favorite but this one has always stood out for me. As bleak and as frightening as The Future may be, this is the one line full of promise and redemption!

All the best, Diana

2,800 seats. How does that compare to the sizes of the other venues he's been playing?

Re size of theatre and number of people at it,

Well in Dublin in June he played in front of approximately 12000 each night. In glastunbury, it was 80,000 plus.
2800, people will be small but very intimate, i would imagine it it will be amzing..

loulou,

I've been meaning to respond to your post. Your "feeling" is very intriguing and I believe in hunches like this completely. It will be interesting to talk with you on the 20th of Feb! :D :D

Just checked with Ebay and of course the touts are going to make another killing while real fans could not get tickets in spite of passwords et. Why not have tickets limited to members of the LC Forum? The attempt to limit the scalpers seems to have failed.

Re Loulou's premonition of special things happening; I'm letting my imagination run wild... a chance to meet the band, as happened in Berlin... and/or meeting Lorca and Adam... Anjani... the roadies... Leonard's musician friends (Judy Collins? Nick Cave? John Cale? Jennifer Warnes? Perla Batalla? Rufus and Martha Wainwright? Who knows), Leonard singing new songs... another musician added to the band (the violinist who was rumoured for the second leg of the Europe tour?)... at the very least, a chance to look at some beautiful photos taken by Lorca backstage on tour.

I also guess Leonard will talk to the audience, in such an intimate venue. Maybe he'll give some of his feelings about this tour and the reception of his fans.

And on the subject of his comments, I have a favour to ask of those of you going to the concert and planning to post here afterwards : if anyone is able to record/take notes, apart from the setlist I would really love to know what Leonard says in between the songs.

It's a particular passion / obsession of mine : ever since I saw Leonard in London in 1993; the way he spoke to us between the songs was extraordinary, many things resonated with me in a way that was electrifying, it was as if he just UNDERSTOOD. Everything. His comments lived with me for years; the first time I'd heard my own complicated feelings about despair and hope so clearly articulated from a stage (the second time was when Alan Rickman played Hamlet as a witty depressive ...).

Of course what matters most are the songs. But for me, a poetic spirit as refined as Leonard's, with such a magical ability to find the exact right words to express subtle meanings, is as interesting in interviews and on-stage banter as he is in his music.

I don't care whether or not comments are scripted or repeated often - poets always prepare their words, especially performers who suffer from stage fright - it doesn't make them any less sincere. His words are always so resonant; God I'd give anything to see a written compilation of all Leonard's on-stage comments to audiences over the years.

So if anyone could make the effort to note them down on the 19th, that would be wonderful. Thank you in advance.

Greetings to all, be your glasses half full or half empty,
Habie x
(I've heard it's very hot in LA, where I assume Leonard is. But London tonight is covered in a crisp credit crunch fog.)

Habie,
try checking this website. I haven't for quite a while but it used to have some of the known spoken introductions that Leonard used in his concerts.

Hello - sort of new here (I used to post ages ago, but forgot my old account info). Needless to say I am excited as many others for Leonard to come to NYC. Wanted to know if there is any way to get tickets besides ticketmaster.com. Does Ticketmaster still have physical location like they used to? Will the Beacon theater box office have tickets for sale as well?

Oh, and to the above, just wanted to add that Beacon Theater is an amazing venue - very intimated and incredible acoustics. Definitely a great choice.

Habie,
I've gotten pretty good at scribbling down setlists in the dark so I'll do my best for you.

Hello all of you, i`ve been reading everything last day on this forum, I thank you all for your honest feelings, thoughts, opinions. I feel part of a greater community i thought was possible. Heard fbr februari 88 and within a week i had all his music, it never stopped since then, but yes, i also thought it was my `thing`. My son gave me a ticket for Amsterdam last year and i enjoyed every moment, feeling this is a life event, so special, it will never happen again. And then there was Rotterdam... and it was even better... he sings my soul..... I was so grateful and thought this is enough for one lifetime. But no, reading the forum the past days i found myself greedy, please, once again.... but no, ny is no option. I wish you an amazing experience and like to read it later. Thank you so much
here is your love for all this

Hi Iris,

How beautiful...."he sings my soul". I think this how many of us feel but are sometimes not able to put into words. I am so happy for you that you were at Amsterdam and Rotterdam! Who knows, he may be in Europe later this year again...maybe...

Meanwhile, thank you for your kind thoughts to those of us lucky enough to attend the New York concert!

sniff sniff
it don't matter how it all went wrong, that don't change the way I feel....

I had a place row B + VIP reception, I gave all the right indication about credit card etc.. and then when the system asked for a control a the credit card, the site suddenly blocked and there was nothing I could to.....after that nothing was possible anymore.

Enjoy the concert, lucky you out there....

I am sad tonight but also happy for you all...

Thank you Margaret, I can't wait to access that site you referenced.

This Forum is such a fount of knowledge! As a group, we must surely know more about every aspect of Leonard-appreciation (OK : worship) than he does... As I wrote jokingly on another thread last year, I love imagining an African fisherman, or someone else far away from Western culture, observing us all at the recent concerts, then coming to this website and trying to interpret the meaning(s) of what we do here... it was a fun exercise!

Anne, thank you so much for offering to scribble in the dark... much appreciated. (Especially as I'm the person who appeared, with my careless phrasing, to have forgotten that Leonard hails proudly from Canada.)

If I wasn't so respectful of rules, and loath ever to break any kind of rule ever for any reason, I'd mention at this point that (apparently) small digital voice recorders (or MP3) are easy to use for recording, in a way that's not obtrusive to anyone around : it's not much effort for the person doing it as they are smaller than your hand, there are no clicks to disturb your neighbours, and the results are not good enough quality to reproduce for commercial purposes, thankfully. It just creates a nice record to keep for personal use... of course, I've only HEARD about this from other people, and I wouldn't DREAM of mentioning it on here.
So please delete the above paragraph from your mind immediately. Ah, that's better.

He sings my soul too. And what a lovely name : Iris.
