Meet up - Royal Albert Hall - Troubadour

Post by Padma »

We are planning to meet at the Troubadour in Old Brompton Road on the Monday and Tuesday before the Royal Albert Hall concerts.
The cafe is now booked between 4-6pm. It can accommodate a maximum of 25 people (we could possibly go over this by a few..but only a few!)

Please can you let me or Habie know if you will joining us.

About the Troubadour:
"The Troubadour is an authentic 1950s coffee house, established in 1954. In the 1960s and 1970s it played host to musicians such as Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. It now combines a cafe with a live music venue, delicatessen and first floor gallery. The Troubadour Cafe serves a range of British and international cuisine, alongside coffee and snacks. There is a garden for al fresco dining."

Nearest underground stations: West Brompton or Earls Court
Nearest train stations: West Brompton or Kensington Olympia

Please Note that I shall be performing only on the Monday so book early to avoid disappointment. I will be accompanied by my backing singers, the World Wide Webb Sisters.

For those of a sedentary disposition, buses C1 and 430 run along Old Brompton Road east to South Kensington station, from where it is just an 800 yard walk to the RAH.

Anyone using the tube except from Wimbledon should ignore West Brompton, as it is on a branch line. Get off at Earls Court, exit towards the Exhibition Centre, turn left and you'll be at the Troubadour in less than five minutes.

Ken,
Thanks for the info.
I will be staying in London from Monday to Wednesday, so I need to find a room to sleep in between the meet-ups and the concerts... (Otherwise I'll fall asleep on your lap during the concert, 'cause I've got the seat next to yours on Monday!). I had no succes in finding a roommate last time (when I was in Manchester), but I'll quote myself here, again looking for a cheap place to sleep:
In between, I'm hoping to see a bit of Manchester and a lot of Cohen...
For the trip, I already booked my flight ticket way in advance and of course I've got a ticket in hand for the Opera House. Then what's missing?
- a good compagnion for a couple of days (more than 1 compagnion is also possible)
- a decent place to sleep (I haven't booked a hotel or youth hostel yet)

If anyone wants to meet up, here is what you get in return:
- a 30 year old male LC fan with no police record nor indecent manners
- a good chat and a bit of humour

My preferences:
- a stunning blond female 30 year old LC fan with good knowledge of LC, Manchester and maths
- a king size bed with champagne breakfast served on bed some time around 11am "the day after"

If anyone wants to aply for the job of being tourguide/companion for me, you can always contact me through PM or directly.
(Grumpy older men will get a chance after I checked my mailbox for any female reaction.)
In case you just want te give me some advice on where to sleep, how to get from the airport to the centre, how to spot LC or which things to visit: feel obligated to contact me!
Change "Manchester" into "London", note that I've got tickets for the RAH and that I will arrive by train instead of by plane. The rest is kind of correct... I have visited London a couple of times by now (I remember a concert by a 73 year old guy at the O2 some time ago), so I'm starting to know my way around.

I will be desperately checking my inbox for any blond, hot, female reactions!

Seriously: is there any hotel where all Cohenites will sleep Monday and/or Tuesday? It would be nice to stay together a bit, no?

Take care,
Maarten

A few of us are staying at the London City Road Travelodge
http://www.travelodge.co.uk/

Didn't you stay in a Travelodge in Manchester?

If you had let us know earlier the rate was only £29 per night
but now I see that it's risen to £81 for the Monday night (17th.) and £84 for the Tuesday night (18th)...still not bad prices for London
I can't guarantee any young blond ladies, but as my Uncle Billy use to say
'you never know your luck in a big city'

Hi
I will be in London for the Monday show. I managed to book a room at the Best Western Cromwell Road for £10 on the Booking.com website. I have the print-out of the email sent to me and its definitely £10 total for the room. So try it and see.
I'd really like to meet up and 'The Troubadours sounds good.
Looking forward to meeting you all

Count me in please!! I shall be traveling from Barcelona on Saturday and go to the show on Monday at the Albert Hall.... Mmm, what a thrill!
I look forward to meet many Cohen fans and friends from this Forum, I think the four concerts in London town should be a great opportunity for Leonard and the band to include some surprises in the setlitst ("A Thousand Kisses Deep" recitation plus the song itself, this is the one I'm longing for...).
Thank you again Mr.Cohen for making 2008 such joyful year!!

Helen and I hope to make it as WLTM you all, however, depends on arrival time in London on Monday 17th November. Might not be able to get in on time for the meet. Please pencil us in provisionally. Will understand if you reach the 25 persons capacity from confirmed responses.
We will keep a close eye on this page for numbers of responses.
Should be a great day :)
