Some LC Videos

Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash.

Jerry's tagline, which quotes Leonard, reminds me of a line from
Isaiah, Chapter 61:3, "...to give unto them beauty for ashes..."
The quotes dovetail nicely.

The version of "First We Take Manhattan" sung by Jennifer Warnes and with guitar by Stevie Ray Vaughn was very beautiful. A wonderful slice of music. The music video for "Dance Me to the End of Love" did not make much sense. Maybe someone can help me to understand it.

What a great site. On Closing Time he is smiling nearly all the way through. I tried to watch Who by Fire and it said no available does that mean the person who put it on took it off.

Cheers Jim/Pod for sharing.

My pleasure. As to 'Who By Fire' I'm not sure, but I think if you subscribe to that person's videos you may be able to benefit from his/her private fileshare. I'll check it out.

YouTube Clip: A Thousand Kisses Deep

Post by Jim Williams »

Does anyone know where this clip comes from? And am I right in thinking it's actually a sort of amalgamation of 'A Thousand Kisses Deep' and 'Way Down Deep', which Jennifer Warnes recorded in 92, on her album 'The Hunter'?

wow, very much thanks!!
I'm watching all the great videos now! :D

A total different version of Thousand kisses deep
and the interview called This hour has Seven Days is truely wonderful. There is such a great thing between leonard and the woman. A great tension there. And funny how she asks about his mum! hahaha

Lovely all this :D

btw. the tone of the interviewer in Take 30 is terrible. I don't like her AT ALL
A sip of wine, a cigarette
And then it's time to go
I tidied up the kitchenette
I tuned the old banjo
-10 new songs, Boogie Street

It's an early, demo version of A Thousand Kisses Deep (music only by LC, without Sharon; earlier stage of the lyrics), performed ONLY in Armelle Brusq's Spring 96 documentary.

http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/brusq.html

The Billboard on August 5, 1995 reported that two songs are nearly complete, A Thousand Kisses Deep and My Secret Life, and that album is on the way (!!!). My presumption is that both songs were re-recorded later for Ten New Songs, co-written by Sharon Robinson. Sharon started to work with LC on album only when he came down, in about 2000, and he said thathe discarded his versions because he liked hers better.

And very precise Sharon, at http://www.leonardcohencroatia.com/shar ... on2004.php (Exchanging Letters with Leonard Cohen)
In the 1997 documentary Spring 96, we saw Leonard singing the first version of »A Thousand Kisses Deep«. Only the head line survived in the 2001 version. That version was an excellent love song with very good melody, but its words weren’t appropriate to your version of music, because with the new melody it became pretty transcendental song. We know that there was Leonard’s version of »In My Secret Life« also, and he discarded both because he »loved your version best«. What happened to those tracks?

Sharon: I’m not really familiar with earlier versions of these songs.
Also, all versions of lyrics are published at http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/kisses.html, with familiar photo.

If anyone would like me to send them any or all of the following videos, via yousendit.com, don't hesitate to ask: :)

Dance Me To The End Of Love, In My Secret Life, Memories, The Gypsy's Wife, Chelsea Hotel No. 2, Suzanne, Suzanne (Isle of Wight), The Future, The Guests (.divx file), The Stranger Song (Julie Felix Show - .divx file).

I also have part 1 (30 mins) of the 1980 Harry Rasky documentary Song Of Leonard Cohen. I expect to have the following soon, too: the full 1988 Austin City Limits concert and, from the same year, the BBC documentary Songs From The Life Of Leonard Cohen .
