Album cover with girl in hut
Hi all, I am Maria from Holland and I love LC's music and thats; why I have joined this forum!
I am a 66 -year old babyboomer and loved every minute of the sixties and seventies... LC's music is always on my mind looking back.
I was wonderting whether you could help me with a search for a certain album that I only remember by its cover.
Blueish, a girl with a typewriter in a (stone?) hut, looking sort of sexy into the camera?
Is this in my mind only or is it an LC album? Or is it a flaw in my memory - I canb see the album cover buit perhapos another artist?
i certainly hope soemone on the forum remembers my imgae and tells me all about it...
Looking forward,
Maria

Re: Album cover with girl in hut - WHO is she?
Hi Davido - this IS the picture... is it a backcover? I never realised... it is so romantic... so in the middel of nowhere... I know some of the Greek islands... and of course; this pic could have been made anywhere but... it has optimism in it, hope, desire, tranquility... I think it deserves more attention.. does anyone know WHO is the girl?
Who is the girtl? Did she play a role in LC's life?
I keep wondering...

Her name is Marianne, Maria. She's beautiful isn't she?
If you put her name into the search box lots of information will come up for you.
Here is a page about typewriters, but if you go halfway down the page you'll see more some more information about about Leonard's time in Greece as well as information about his typewriter

Maria - Leonard lived with Marianne Ihlen and her son on the Greek island of Hydra (where they met) for several years in the Sixties. Marianne's son was from her previous relationship with Axel Jensen. The picture (the back cover of "Songs From a Room") was taken in Leonard's house on Hydra. During this period, he was also spending time in Montreal and New York. "So Long Marianne" was written for Marianne, and was originally to be called "Come On Marianne". Marianne, who originates from Norway, has been interviewed periodically in recent years, and has attended at least one of Leonard's concerts during that time. You'll find the most recent account of Leonard and Marianne's relationship in Sylvie Simmon's biography of Leonard.
Re: Album cover with girl in hut
Thank you John for this answer. Some history... I have always had a feeling with LC that he was surrounded by lovely, eager, attentive and desirable young women whom he had then one for one sadly to disappoint for this great love of his.
Of course I always painted myself in that picture, wishing to be selected by The Master... His dramatic songs, his very emotional, difficult to understand (for me) books about the Indian Saint, in short this seemingly Bohemian atmosphere of artistic life full of spleen as in the 1880's... attracted and fascinated me.
Friend of mine went to Greece in the Sixties on a mission to search for them, wanting to meet up with them, live the same arty life. In those days a very risky and uncertain expedition, what with the regime in power. On a ferry however he met his then wife to be and ended up with her on another Island, never having met his target... See how one brilliant idolised man can inspire another and make change to his life's course.
Meanwhile I went to my local Vinyl Record shop and found and purchased Songs from a Room and played it on my well preserved Dual 1275 Jubileum player... some memories, I tell you. The sparks are still flying which is not happening that much with his current videos wearing this hat.
BTW Why does he do that? Going bald? Sinatra-looks?
Anyway thank you for your updata nd I will certainly pursue the book you mentioned.
Ciao, Maria

Here is Leonard describing how he met Marianne. She was last on the island in 2011. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R12p-rCbr3o

Hello Hybrid thank you for pointinmg me twords the video - it is great albeit Marianne is in there only as a wall photograph...
Since joining this forum I developed & educated myself in secveral ways.
I noticed this is the worldfamous LC forum and there may be another one.
Recommended by you or other members I bought and read and nearly finished Sylvie Simmonds' extraordinary biography "I'm Your Man" ... my some work of art and knowledge that is. And it contains some wonderful expressive photos as well.
I confess getting confused with LC's title-management - there seem to be a few identical titles for poems, albums, movies, books...
Though being a Babyboomer (1946) I must have missed out on most of LC's life & times & productions between 1975 and now - and I am backtracking as an idiot. My hubbie gets nervous as if I was seeing someone else but it is just me catching up with LC... dowloaded most of his albums and playing - hubbie get very somber & gloomy.
So thnak you to you and the forum I am getting by and up to speed where it concerns old LC - 78 and still touring for the money Miss Kelley stole from him.
Has she ever paid up? What's the latest here?
Nighttime here in Amsterdam
Bye for now

I am sure since 2008 Leonard has earned much more than was lost to Kelley Lynch. What she took I doubt will ever be found: I imagine it has either been spent or given away.maria1 wrote:I am getting by and up to speed where it concerns old LC - 78 and still touring for the money Miss Kelley stole from him. @ Hybrid - I think it reads in the biographgy she was ultimately sentenced to pay back $ 7.5 M but... in Holland we say "how to pluck feathers from a frog".
LC in my mind is a vat of contrasts: love, religion, innocence, poetry AND production. How amazing. What stamina too.
Man keeps fascinating me - would not have minded meeting up with him when I was younger- we only differ 12 years - could have learned a few things I gather )

Hi Hydriot - I am sorry for this persistent typo - no offense meant, just my bad eyesight for small print on a large screen.
Please accept my apologies - Maria
