I like cdb's categories. I definitively prefer the Early Period.

That's a really hard poll to vote in. I don't think I would vote in his 60's period, but just about everything else is a tie...

That's too hard - can I have the 60s and 70s? (actually, you can chuck in the rest too)

My favorite Leonard Cohen period is NOW because I can enjoy his past and look forward to his future

Sorry, you will all have to vote again. I added the 1950s to the poll, which I hadn't done previously. There were only 66 votes and the 1970s was in the lead, followed by the 60s, the 80s, the 2000s and the 90s was last. So vote again. This includes both, music and literature.

Blimey, is the 70s allowed two votes? Still, it was bound to happen. ;)

Not sure what this is going to prove, but I voted anyway. Sorry to see 0 for the 90's, cause I still think the Future is fantastic. Voted for 2000's because I have been blessed by meeting and live concerts and Book of Longing --- WOW

Can't possibly get any better for a latecomer like me..

I agree with you on The Future, Dick, however, to share my vote with the world, I voted the 70's because of that great collection (Best of 1975), and Field Commander Cohen, which I guess would be on the cusp of the 70's and 80's but technically the 70's. Still, it included some great stuff from the 60's redone. Same with the Best of '75, released in the 70's but including stuff from the 60's. I couldn't vote the 90's even though The Future is one of my faves. The 90's just didn't hold 'enough' interest, where his earlier years did. Also, in the 70's he was losing that 'pure' sounding tenor voice and taking Judy Collins' advice to deepen his voice - add an edge. Too bad polls come with a one vote, no excuses sort of policy. Each period had its merits but the 70's had some of the nice 'edgier' - not good for radio play type songs, which is what I liked the best. Some great tunes in that period, and it served to show how he was changing. So, to make my reasons known and even MORE confusing - 'his early period with a hole in it to zip over to The Future', and slip back into the 60's by way of the Best of collection. Phew~don't know why I have to complicate these matters, but I take Leonard's work seriously, as we all do, and I couldn't just tick a box without giving my reasons. It's very difficult to pinpoint a time in history to say, with unwavering certainty, that 'this was my favourite period'. Btw, as I've said before, I like to see these older threads resurface, it makes me all weepy to remember what seems like a looong time ago. :) I'll get over it, when Leonard FINALLY makes it to the West Coast.

I love every thing he ever wrote/sang, so I'd vote for every period. However, I voted for the 2000s because my all-time favourite is Love Itself, which is on the 2001 Ten New Songs.

Have voted again - I find it so, so hard to choose between the 60s and 70s, but have finally plumped for 60s as it brought me Master Song. Imagine if you had to do this in real life and that would be all you were allowed to listen to  The thing I love about Leonard's career is that there are absolute gems dotted throughout.

Hmm.. Looks like 'collections' don't count - hence my 'cheating' with The Best of and Field Commander Cohen from the '70's - which, yes, contained a lot of 60's stuff. Still, I have to stay with '70's - Songs of Love and Hate and Recent Songs (maybe that's my 'collection' which my memory miscatted, being two very influential discs, for me. Very hard. After all, musically, we were introduced to Leonard with Master Songs and all those great tunes we never hear but in our own homes (except for the overly played Suzanne). I stand by my Vote! And I agree with you too, Flots, Love Itself was a great song - it saved TNS for me. Let's not even speak of 'Light as the Breeze' from The Future ... :) - Great album, great song.
