Budapest Travel Tips #3 - Transportation 2.0

Post by majmunka »

One more post about transportation

It's usual in Hungary that the transportation company times their reconstruction works for the summer holidays.
This year is not different so brace yourself. Here's the main traps:

- Metro line 3 (blue) is closed after 8:30 PM on weekdays and all day on weekends. Replacement bus is available.
- The main tram line #4/6 is not in service between Oktogon and Harminckettesek tere. Replacement bus is available.
- Metro like 2 (red) doesn't service Kossuth square (Parliament). The trains run through without stopping there.

There's always more but these disruptions affect the areas tourists usually frequent.
Don't get disheartened, public transportation is still reasonably good in Budapest and there're always alternative routes :)

Budapest Transportation Company has a rather useful app for Android and Apple, it's called Futár.
In map view you can check the nearby stops for real time info about the next bus or tram and it also has a planner.
