Open Mic - Budapest 2018

Post by majmunka »

Hi again friends,

Andrew (Darby) has organised and hosted the Open Mic sessions at several previous events, so I am very pleased to inform you he has agreed to do the same for our 2018 Budapest Event.

If you long to burst out of your obscurity as a performer, or otherwise just want to perform some of Leonard's songs or poetry as you always do when given the opportunity, this is your big chance! The Open Mic session always takes place in front of a friendly, supportive and non-judgmental audience, so newcomers to this type of performance, don’t be coy.

All you need to do is bring along your voice/guitar or whatever instrument you play. Traditionally, Open Mic has had a duration of between two and three hours, usually on one of the afternoons.

The main performance stipulation is that it is a Leonard Cohen piece, as opposed to Cohenesque ones (i.e. in the style of, or inspired by). Also, in a bid to allow as many people as possible to get a chance to perform, there will be a limit of 3 pieces (songs/poems/dances) per performer, unless a reduced number of performers allows more latitude, which will be communicated closer to the time.

Please email Andrew expressing your interest to perform at the Open Mic, at his email address: darby203@bigpond.com

The information required from performers is:

- the name/s of the performer/s;
- the name of the songs/pieces being performed;
- the language of the performance (if not in English);
- the approximate length of the pieces;
- any special requirements/equipment;
- a contact mobile/cell phone number.

Cheers,
Eva

Hi there friends in celebration,

This is just a gentle reminder that our Budapest event is just over 7 weeks away, but at this point we only have four performers who've put their hand up for Open Mic.

Don't be shy, demonstrate your talent in this friendly non-judgmental environment, one that appreciates everyone's creative interpretation of Leonard's work, what it means to them, how it moves them.

I'll await your contact. ;-)

Cheers,
Andrew :D

Salutations Andrew

I'll do something ... but I can't remember what.
Hmm - there may be strings attached.

That would be great! 8)

Dear performers,

Just so as you know in advance, we will be having our 'sound check' at 11.30 on Saturday, at the main venue, the Budapest Jazz Club.

This is scheduled before the boat cruise at 13.00, but might encroach upon earlier walking tours.

Just let me know if you can't be there for this, either by SMS on +61 418 724 953 or email at darby203@bigpond.com.

Cheers,
Andrew :)

Also, the Open Mic session itself will be held between 16.00 and no later than 18.00 (but preferably finishing before then, to allow time before the evening program). 8)

Cheers,
Andrew :)
