Ta Ken for the bus info. From Cardiff I'd have had to take two planes to get to Shannon or Knock.

Margaret I did sail-rail on my last trip over but found the time taken for the distance travelled made it not-worth-it. But that's just me. Also, the boat home was overcrowded and cos I went up on deck to take some pics before getting a seat, I had no seat, which would have been OK but that particular boat was small and there wasn't really anywhere to sit on the floor either.

Paula, you'll be fine:-)

as we have direct flights to both shannon and knock from liverpool i too looked at flying to both of these airports

but from knock (god bless father james horan) there is only a very slow and infrequent bus service to galway with a journey time of one and half hours

and i've used shannon airport before but flight times from liverpool don't fit in with the galway schedule and the coach service up to galway is once again infrequent with a journey time of one to one and half hours

dublin is definitely the best entry point for our galway trip plus you can get better deals on flights for dublin

don't forget joe has arranged the first activity of the event for thursday evening so make sure you arrive in time at dublin airport to grab a bus for the 3 hour hour journey to galway for arrival for no later than early evening....

judy 77 euros return!!!!...i think i would grab that now....ryanair fares generally do drop in price depending on demand up to a couple of weeks before take-off but i would definitely still grab it while it's only 77 euros... ta ken

Joe

What time in the evening do we need to be in Galway itself? I was thinking of an afternoon flight with Aer Lingus arriving in Dublin at 16.20. Onward travel would hopefully get me to Galway for 8.00pm
Is that too late?

Hi Margaret,

The plan on the Thursday evening is to stroll out to Salthill on the prom leaving Galway @ 6:00pm to catch the sun going down.
You wolud need to be in Galway for 5 pm to check in etc.
J.

Ken,

Your right.....Dublin is the best option to fly into....Shannon next and then Knock,

Are there any non-walkers/short strollers (I don't mean short in height!) going?

Hi Pete,
I am (unfortunately  ) a short walker .....if without up and downs I should be able to manage ca. 1.00h - 1,5h hours , if with uphill and downhills...not even that long :( .

Hi Andrea
I'm in the same league as you so I won't be Billy No Mates.
I class myself as a tall short walker...or I could say a long short walker (if I'm lying down) I know you're not as long as me (unless you've grown since I last saw you!) so you'll be a medium short walker.
I wont wear my long shorts otherwise I'll be a long shorts long short walker.
I need a coffee
