I will post reports on the progress in this thread.

Email from Lakis today:
The good news are that at the last meeting of the municipal monthly gathering the whole board voted yes on your proposition and
our architectonical plan. Now after 1 week, approximately, we will have in our hands this decision in writing and together with the whole
plan we will start the battle with the Archeological and town-planning offices. We hope that we will have their decisions sometime after
new-year, January or February. At the municipal assembly everyone was very enthusiastic with the idea and very grateful for your
donation.
I'll keep you informed about the next steps.
Regards, Lakis
and in his previous email:
Thank you all, once more, for your excellent idea to advice and realize this project. It will definitely give to the whole island a new era.
Well, I'm telling you that right now the stones that we going to use to build the bench ,are all in my garden.
Very soon the man who will cut them in the shape we need will start working on them.
They are carefully selected among many and it will be perfect accomplished to the environment.

I'm shocked that they need to take three to four more months to formally approve the bench (and the gifts of any surplus, which of course cannot occur until the bench is completed).

IMO, this isn't just looking a gift horse in the mouth, it is propping the horse's mouth open and extracting the teeth!

Actually, I am quite reassured that they take planning and archeological issues seriously. If only everywhere was so careful to preserve its heritage ....

Actually good news , "good things come to those who wait" I am sure everything will go well, we just have to be patient, and it is - no doubt about it- a big project and a bautiful one at that.

The project has been approved by all local authorities on Hydra. We are still waiting for permission from the Historical Office in Athens. I expect to get another report from Lakis before Xmas.

I have received good news from Greece today!

We have now the permissions from the Ministries of Culture and Environment.
Our architect will now finalize the paperwork with the municipality of Hydra.
The work on the bench is about to begin!

Any idea if they already started on the bench? Might have a look in two weeks.
