I was also very touched listening to Marianne telling about the years with Leonard. Sometimes it sounded just as she was crying . It really is a pity that so few can listen to that interviuw and understand it .

I have removed my translation of the interview with Marianne because
she had not aproved it and wanted to read it before i published it.
And then Kari Hesthamar's translation is better and complete.

Thank you so much for translating this. From all I have read I always felt that Marianne and Leonard were true soulmates. They seemed more compatible than other relationships since then.

Your welcome,Margaret.Will try some more in the week coming.
It's alot of work.This is only the 7 first minutes of the interview.
Have burnt both interviews onto cd's so i can stop it when i want to.
Hope there will be some interest here for the translation.
Your from Chester?I used to go to Chester Zoo when i was a little boy
many years ago.Seems now like it was in another life
Is the zoo still there?

For about 12 years we lived a few minutes walk from Chester Zoo and sometimes took a walk along a footpath from where we could see some of the enclosures for free. We even collected elephant dung for our garden! The Zoo is still there but we moved house and now live about 2 or 3 miles away from it.

I'm sure others here will appreciate your translation.

I know it will be alot of work for you to translate the interview Phili but rest assured I and many others will truly enjoying reading it in English. It is rare that an interview like this is available and to hear Marianne's own words and recollections of Leonard and her time with him will be quite a treat. Take your time.....I'll wait!

Dear Philwilli ~

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to translate this interview. I know how difficult this process can be. You can rest assured there are many here who will appreciate all of your effort. This is, indeed, a very rare interview and simply 'seeing'/'hearing' Marianne speak, after so many years of our wondering, is like a window into a dark room [the dark room is the mystery that's surrounded Marianne all this time] finally being opened, with light and fresh air flooding in. As it's already been noted in the interview, we've seen the photo of her at the typewriter, and in the songbook, the one of her sitting at the table with Leonard and a friend, and some others of her. We know Leonard's words of her, and even there, actually few, until this latest interview with him. This interview, so far, is very tender and poignant... and you can see the woman in it, of whom Leonard has sung and now has spoken. Now here, at last, she speaks as well, and she remains humble, shy, and self-effacing. There seems to remain a deep connection and tremendous respect between them. Thank you for your willingness to do this. I'll be patiently waiting with Dar and the rest.

Having read the i/v with Marianne and enjoyed it, I fear we sometimes read too much into things that are said. The sadness(and joy) Marianne recounts are in all our lives. and I think, just sometimes, there's a danger of deification on this site.
I hope I'mnot causing grief to anyone but I felt I had to say this.

Marianne Faithful was being interviewed on the BBC a couple of years ago on a chat show and said that Leonard wrote the song about her!

Which I believed until now...
