How do you pronounce the word "Cohenite"?

DrHGuy is asking an interesting question (via LC's facebook):
A collective noun is a collection of things taken as a whole. For example, in the phrase "a pride of lions," pride is a collective noun.
For some time, the accepted term for an admirer of Leonard Cohen has been “Cohenite.” The earliest reference I’ve found for this usage of the term is Joni Mitchell’s declaration in 1975, “I’m a stone Cohenite.” (Source: On the Road With Bob Dylan by Larry Ratso Sloman. Three Rivers Press; Revised edition: August 27, 2002)
Recently, Eileen Cockcroft opened Facebook Group thread with the question, “What is a good name for a collective noun of Leonard Cohen fans?” This led to an extended discussion with several terms suggested in response.
Fellow fans, let's start the discussion on this page as well – what do you think?

I've never heard about Joni Mitchell and 1975 (40th anniversary!), that's simply amazing!

My question is: how do you pronounce this word?

When I had a pleasure to meet Chrissie and Kevin in Saint Petersburg, we've discussed many Cohenesque topics, including this one.
So I learned the English way to pronounce: "Cohenight".
Here, in Russia we use another (a la French) variant: "Coheneet".

Thanks Rike :D

I'm truly interested in different national variants, very curious about that!

HI Roman, this is a compressed version of the Facebook discussion:

As far as pronouncing the word in Australian English, phonetically I say Co-en--ite ...("ite" sounding the same as "ight") :)

I don't know what nationality this is!

Thanks Bev!

I believe, WordKiwi provides auto-generated recordings (like Google Translate).
User-generated Forvo is empty: http://forvo.com/search/Cohenite/ (and only 3 recordings of "Leonard Cohen", all in English).

Interesting to ask questions about and put the spotlight on something we tend to take for granted, both in terms of meaning and ,at least for english speakers, pronunciation .
Made me wonder what it takes to qualify as a ' cohenite' ( it's probably a bit more than just liking some of his work ) , and interesting to ponder the origin of the term - the possible joni mitchell connection is news to me..There's no reason why we had to have that term - i think, for example, the equivalent for' Bob Dylan admirers' is ' Bobcat' , though Leonardcat doesn't sound quite right ! (would have made the collective noun ' pride' seem appropriate in more ways than one .... a (proud) pride of 'leonardcats')
My forum name is 'cohenadmirer' and i was surprised that no- one else had used that name when i first registered here. If ever i need to talk about the artists i follow , saying i am a 'cohen admirer' probably has a slighty more direct descriptive value than saying i'm a cohenite.

I'll try to add another dimension.
A while ago I asked myself, who I am. My main occupation is, to a big surprise of my friends and to my own great surprise too, a Teacher.
What's the name of my hobby? I can't call myself a Cohenologist (in Russia, we'd rather say, Cohenolog). What I'm doing isn't a science, a serious investigation. I'm making lists, webpages and other interesting, useful (hope so), but "not obligatory", stuff. So, I don't remember actually using this word, but my activity can be described as Cohenography, and I'm a Cohenograph.

Mostly it's about Hermitage Prisoner!

Well, that becomes more and more interesting:
- collective names
- gender forms
- national variations
- professions

Coming soon:
- personal names (abbreviations a la Soviétique: Vilyur = Vladimir Ilyich Loves Workers)
- countries (what is your true nationality: Cohenland? Cohenlandia? Cohenstan?)
- terrestial planets

Cohenite is a naturally occurring iron carbide mineral with the chemical structure (Fe, Ni, Co)3C. This forms a hard, shiny, silver mineral which was named by E. Weinschenk in 1889 after the German mineralogist Emil Cohen, who first described and analysed material from the Magura meteorite found near Slanica, Žilina Region, Slovakia. Cohenite is found in rod-like crystals in iron meteorites.

Anyway, in the Universe where Cohenite serves as a pressure indicator in iron meteorites, we are not alone!

Singapore Cohenite - Where are you?

Yes, there's a twin forum of Cohenites from all over world.

Some of the thread titles are amazing:
1st Time Cohenite
Thinking about doing Cohens? Info about the programme and how to start!
"But - will Cohens work for me?"
Has anyone done Cohen's for a 3rd time? (oh, I did it in 2013!)

The forum is dedicated to this:
Cohen’s Weight Loss Program is an individual program based on international research started over 25 years ago in the US, Europe and South Africa by Dr Cohen and his research partners.

Instead of Cohenite-Cohenito-Cohenita, I had thought of Lionkitten in Cohenistan (three syllables, with genitive-i),
but Cohenit the Heavenly Mineral (ask your physics teacher how to pronounce that) beats them all...

Reuters reviews the facebook discussion!

I prefer to think about us as a suit of Cohenites.
This word sounds very... suitable. There are several meanings of it (as a noun and as a verb) that reveal something about us.

Also, since now I will say "stone Cohenite" instead of "hardcore Cohenite" for those of us who has a Cohenphilic Personality Disorder :D
