Leonard Cohen's Dog

Post by carlton » Sat Aug 25, 2012 3:04 pm

This is not a silly question - after Tinkie, did Mr Cohen own any other dogs?
(I asked the same question about an hour ago and it disappeared)
(By the way I haven't introduced myself as I've been on the site for years under a different name - Glyn and then Pope)

In the book A Remarkable life - Leonard Cohen, if it is true it says after his first dog died, he was so upset he never had another.

I remember him saying in an interview how pleased he was that his daughter had got two dogs and he liked to teach them tricks, saying they were just mutts that she got from the pound.I seem to remember he once considered putting one of them on the cover of ten new songs.
btw welcome back Glyn

Lorca's dog Nova finally did make it onto a single, Boogie Street, in 2002. See http://leonardcohenfiles.com/gallery-cd4.html. And more of the story here: http://leonardcohenfiles.com/sphinx.html

Thanks for this photo of Nova. Hope it is a recent or current photo? Also hope that my own 2 rescue dogs get to that age !

I do think it's sad that Leonard never wanted another dog - I think we have all felt like that after the loss of a beloved pet, yet somehow we start again... But then he doesn't need to, if Lorca shares her 2 dogs with him! Anyway, he's away a lot .... :)

Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

I guess this verse tells it all. He was 9 when his father died (leaving him his books and a military pistol), and he was in his teens when their dog Tinkie/Tovarisch disappeared during a snow storm (the dog was found next Spring under the porch, as is stated in Ira Nadel's Various Positions. A Life of Leonard Cohen).

ps. hi glyn:)
