The Cohen sermon

Post by peter danielsen » Sun Apr 12, 2009 12:01 am

Hi friends
Tonight I wrote my sermon for this sunday on a cruel cocktail of the new Leonard Cohen Cd and German beer. Smoke will rise from the tower of Rimsø Church tomorrow!

Hi Peter,

You will have to let us all know how everything went! Sounds interesting to say the least!

Diana

ps..your "cocktail" does not sound cruel to me.

Serious? Why? Church doesn't have to be BORING. Hmph! ;-)

OK now I have to ask, which German beer was it? I like the Czech beer Pilsner Urquell. Mmm

Peter, I wish more priests would write their sermon using LC (and German beer) as inspiration. 8)

Just remember, Peter, that Roshi once told Leonard that he needs to sing more sad. Not a bad parallel.

Got a transcript of it or notes we might understand?

Yes I know what you mean lizz, but on the other hand I feel that humour and seriousness go well together, not least in Cohens songs and writing

Peter,

Do you have any of your sermons printed online? It would truly be wonderful to read one of them! Perhaps even extracts?

Who knows, you could end up with a mega-church filled with Leonard fans! What a story that would be!

Can you publish the sermon on this site? I want to come to your church, and then enjoy an Engel Dunkel with you afterwards.

During the Summer, adults will be gathering at 9:15 in the Library for “Coffee talk.” Among the topics we’ll be looking at: the upcoming General Convention of the Episcopal Church, talking about the week’s sermon, reflecting on the news headlines from a Christian perspective and other topics that the gathered group wants to engage. Grab a cup, pull up a chair and join right in. Leadership will be shared. This Sunday, Hunt will be discussing the sermon and sharing the music and theology of Leonard Cohen. Come check it out.
