apology accepted Mike, thanks.... you should be aware I don't take anything too seriously, so I've not been upset (bemused, maybe.. ;-) ) - but onward & upward, eh? I will try & behave myself, but making no promises...

Suggestion:
At the gate into the grounds of Lissadell so it can be seen by Leonard when they drive through to the grounds
the night of the concert...
huge prayer flags flying in the wind made up of Polka Dot blouses!!!
I am serious..he would love it!!!
(See you tube San Jose 2009 - Closing Time)...
I am just kidding around on this suggestion! please don't take this seriously...

Just having a laugh but I know it would make Leonard smile!
one of the reasons I decided to come all the way to Ireland and spend half my retirement fund (ha!)to do this is because I love the Irish and know that
the atmosphere will be one a bit 'wilder' than other concerts...as one of my first loves was an Irish man from Cork...I just have a good feeling about this...
I can hardly wait to hear Leonard's voice and songs again and for the music to begin...

this isn't an official government meeting being held in Sligo - this is the forum and Leonard coming to sing to us in the fields...at sunset...
So I think outrageous is good and anything to make Leonard smile and feel our love are good ideas...
so there you go...
Les (Mutti) ;-)

My final suggestions for meeting on Tuesday.

A charity tie-up
I think it is nice that the businesses of Sligo are going to get such a boost but I suggest that there could also be a charity tie-up as people are going to have a few bob to hand for sure. Not noticed that at other concerts but would the LC organization have any objection?

It would be nice if some sort of commemorative thingy for about 3 or 4 euro was produced for the LC weekend, with all profits going to local Sligo charities and other local good causes. Could be something a bit "dull" (to me but I would still buy it) like a booklet or badge but I suggest - the Leonard Cohen/Yeats Sligo cup cake would be easy enough to produce and a good seller... (that bit may not be serious, but the concept is serious). Or if not something to sell then Sligo charity buckets in town and outside the venue?

See example roughed out here - too good to eat. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XOqHuceatHw/S ... upcake.JPG

Erm, where is the Vet's cos I'm bringing me goldfish  too? They never miss an lc concert, but I'm worried about timothy tiddles on account of his scale-rash.

Maybe you could get them backstage or ,hell even onstage. They would be no trouble. Bound to be a vet in a crowd this size and he/she could be called if required. The local gardai would help out.

My wife, a member of this forum, is at present confined to a wheelchair, unable to use a computer at present, both of us hope to attend the Sligo Concert.
But we had no information to help us. Through this Forum we received help and more , what we
used to call common courtesy was available. Mike helped us find out about Wheelchair access
and accommodation, he has offered to arrange our transport from train to hotel and to Garavouge
and concert. We now have information on Caredoc . hospital services etc in Sligo area .We could never have undertook this journey without help from this list. Thank you all again. Ronnie.

I wonder if some of the personas created on this thread actually exist. The more I look at it the more strange it all seems. It has the feel of a hard sell, maybe commercially inspired. An uncanny number of members seem to have been created just before they entered opinions, only on this thread or it's predecessor. I hold my hands up to have thrown in a joke or two, this site deserves much better and I apologise for that but does anyone share my suspision that something a little sinister may be at hand?

I'm not sure sinister is quite the right word radar but I know what you mean and I do share your discomfort. carlowmike is clearly a genuine and long term fan but a lot of the Sligo "build up" does seem to be commercially led. I hope I am wrong.

I do not really see anything sinister afoot, perhaps more an over-excitement if anything. I tend to lean towards the cock-up rather than conspiracy theory of history. Any strain I have noticed I would categorise as between those who will try and organise and those who do not want to be organised. I pitch my tent firmly in the latter camp. That said, I do not even have any major problems with the notion of commercialism, I mean LC who, I imagine, would be uneasy with deification is making an awful lot of money out of these tours. His retirement pot is well and truly filled again. Would that mine were anyway near as healthy or even existed in the first place! I am happy enough with someone turning an honest bob and only baulk at greed and profiteering. It would be nice if the Forum were a quiet space away from the banality of a capitalist greedy world but it, like everything, is not quite perfect but still a good place to dip in and out of.

But helicopter rides? Jeney who works for the kildaregeneaogy wants to go for a helicopter ride on the weekend, she also wants to meet up with fans specifically from offaly, carlow etc. The great thing about this forum is that it brings people together from all over the world. Why in the name of God would anyone want to meet people specifically from their county or a neighbouring one? And why on earth would you want to add the expense of a helicopter trip on such a weekend? Jeney with the job you have which I assume involves a degree if investigative work can't you find out for yourself about the helicopter? Carlowmike or Mick as you refer to him in your e mail has enough to be doing.Soon he is going to come back with details about shuttle buses.

I think you missed the point radar, I was asking if anyone was interested in sharing the cost of a helicopter ride, over Lissadel (not during the concert !) and the beautiful west coast sometime during that weekend.
The Shenanigan's meet-up planned for Kildare / Offally etc. are for Fan Clubs from the counties.
Beautiful weather here in Kildare today, just what we want for end of July next. jeney.
Dublin 22nd July 2009. Sligo 31st July and 1st August 2010.
I dreamed about you, baby
It was just the other night.
