I think most people are too busy dancing at that stage - I know I was!

I don't know if he has done this before, haven't read all the other concert reports yet...
If I'm not mistaken, I think he also used these lines from the same song:

They're stacking up the chairs,
They're wiping down the bar,
I never got to tell you
How beautiful you are.

I'm pretty sure he used these lines at several of the other French shows too, though at this point I can't remember which ones.

All the best,
Morgan
Yep, you're right, he did say that.

Leonard used these two lines in Lisbon, and went on to say that the bar tender had his hands behind his back and wasn't serving any more drinks, so we would have to call it a night! Got a great reception.

"Contemplating Leonard Cohen on stage is to admire a living god of music."

This reviewer evidently got so carried away that they imagined they heard 1000 kisses deep and Avalanche! :)

Maarten, I think it happened for the first time in Lisabon, Sept 10, according to Tipperary Ann's report in Lisboa thread:
TipperaryAnn wrote:I was too busy enjoying the concert to keep track of the setlist, but those posted seem pretty accurate; it doesn't vary much, yet each experience is different. Highlights for me were the slower version of "Chelsea Hotel", which I love, "Who by fire", always so dignified, and a really lively "Closing Time" - Leonard still amazingly energetic after hours of performing, followed by spoken lines from the "other" Closing Time, "Never Got to Love You", ( from Anjani 's "Blue Alert") , which got a big smile from Sharon. And I was delighted that he ended with "Heart with no Companion", which has always been one of my favourites, and sounds great in its current arrangement.
