Cohen Sets Date For Sligo Concert

Canadian troubadour Leonard Cohen is to perform at Lissadell House in Co Sligo this summer.
The legendary songwriter's website says he will play at the venue, the ancestral home of Countess Constance Markievicz, on July 31st at 7pm.
It is the only Irish date listed as part of Cohen's European tour, which commences in Croatian capital Zagreb on July 25th and is scheduled to end in Bratislava, Slovakia, on October 13th.
Event promoter POD has yet to comment on the concert, but earlier this month the company gave notice that it intended to apply for an event licence to stage four concerts at Lissadell House between July 30th and August 2nd.
Cohen (75) played a series of concerts at the O2 in Dublin last summer and performed three times in the grounds of the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, in 2008.
A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cohen has become renowned for his poetic songwriting and ability to explore themes such as love, sex, death and religion. Many of his best-known songs, including Suzanne and Hallelujah , have been widely covered by other artists.
Lissadell House is currently closed to the public while a rights-of-way legal argument prevails in the High Court in Dublin between millionaire lawyer owners Edward Walsh and wife Constance Cassidy, and Sligo County Council.
