Durham, North Carolina
Tuesday November 3, 2009
The concert started precisely at 8PM, ended around 11:15PM.
Intermission was about 25 minutes long, maybe 9:05 to 9:30.
The venue was DPAC (Durham Performing Arts Center).

Another stellar performance. It was an honor to have been there.

It was his 3rd performance of the new song (which premiered in Chicago, and sung for the 2nd time in Asheville, NC). There were several changes. II noticed he did not use "baby" in the lyrics at all this time, he skipped several verses and a new verse included reference to a bed or bedroom..."you visit me"... and "I beg you not to leave me and I try to go on sleeping through the night". I wish I could remember more specific words, but I'm sure a clip will emerge on YOUTUBE soon, and we can update the lyrics. The audience was responsive, with appreciative laughter at the image of the blindfolded prisoner being set free. The Asheville audience had reacted the same way.

Set list that was taped to Leonard's monitor.

Songs to the left were played. Songs on the right are alternates I'm assuming.

The "new blues song" about the prisoner with the blindfold is not listed here....and I can't remember exactly when it was played . About mid-show, i think.

Hey - thanks for posting! I hope he plays this tomorrow in Nashville. I'll do my best to send in the set list.

I'm calling the new song "The Prisoner" until someone names it more distinctively.

It was played between "Gypsy Wife" and "Partisan".

Hi,
Again, I have updated my file with all setlists. Please check for any mistakes, especially regarding "The Flood" and the new song!
If you are planning to go to a concert, print out one of the last setlists so you can easily keep track of the setlist for us...

In Durham, he did recite "The Flood" leading into "Anthem".

also, in Durham, he played "hey, that's no way to say goodbye"

I don't recall if it was just before or just after the new Prisoner song....

Maarten,
Are you, or is someone else, keeping track of the various versions of the new song? So far there seem to be three different versions, and information about them is scattered between here, the concert reports and the thread about the song (I think). I'll be happy to try to do it, but it doesn't seem worthwhile to duplicate work already done.
Thanks for all your work on this,
Sue

I don't think this is correct. Perhaps a third party can confirm, but I don't recall this at all.

i don't know why I'm remembering that.....it must be the power of suggestion of reading the set list. On second thought though, I cannot swear that it was played.

Memory's a tricky thing. ;)

The new song was played where "Goodbye" is shown on the set list.

"Goodbye" was definitely not played; the Prisoner song was played in its place just like the 3 previous shows

The new song ("the other blues song") lyrics

Chicago version:
October 29. 2009

Feels so good baby
not to love you like I did.
Feels so good
not to love you like I did.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this prisoner live.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this prisoner live.

Feels so good baby
just to wake up in the morning by myself.
Cup of coffee in the kitchen, fire up a little danger to my health.
It's like the same old broken heart but it feels like it belongs to someone else.
I've got the same old broken heart but now it feels like it belongs to someone else.

Feels so good baby
to see you smiling back at me.
It's so good baby
not, not to be each other's VIP.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this man go free.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this man go free.

Feels so good
not to love you like I did.
Feels so good
I don't know why but it just did.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this prisoner live.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this prisoner live.

Asheville, North Carolina version:
November 1, 2009

Feels so good baby
not to love you like I did.
Feels so good
not to love you like I did.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this prisoner live.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this prisoner live.

Feels so good baby

not to be each other's VIP.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this man go free.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this man go free.

I miss you, baby,
just nothin' like it was.
It's just a little stroll now,
on the other side of love.
I see you waving in the distance, aahh, aahh, but you're close enough.
I see you waving in the distance, but the distance is close enough.

Feels so good
not to love you like I did.
Feels so good
I don't know why but it just did.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this prisoner live.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this prisoner live.

Durham, North Carolina version:
November 3, 2009

Well it feels so good
not to love you like I did.
Feels so good
not to love you like I did.
It's like they tore away the blindfold and they said we're gonna let this prisoner live.
It's like they tore away the blindfold and they said we're gonna let this prisoner live.

Feels so good baby
just to wake up in the morning by myself.
Cup of coffee in the kitchen, fire up a little danger to my health.
I got the same old broken heart but it feels like it belongs to someone else.
I got the same old broken heart but now it feels like it belongs to someone else.

Ah, but you visit me,
summon me to the dreams of the night. (or: the room for the night? the kingdoms of the night?)
And I show you how you broke me
doing every single little thing that I like.
And I beg you not to leave me
and I try to go on sleeping, but the room's too bright.
And I beg you not to leave me
and I try to go on sleeping, but the moon's too bright.

Yeah, it feels so good
not to love you like I did.
I don't know why,
ah, but it just did.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this man live.
It's like they tore away my blindfold and they said we're gonna let this man live.

Hope this is helpful, Maarten. I attended the Asheville and Durham concerts, and took the lyrics from clips I played over and over. Still unsure about the line that starts: "summon me.." Maybe he'll sing this line again in Nashville tonight.

Maarten, I have corrected some errors; differences that I missed in my last post.
The words change at each concert, but I think these are pretty accurate.
