It's a beautiful film and for anyone in the UK who hasn't seen it, it's on BBC2 tomorrow night (Sept 28) at 9pm.

Saw the movie, or should we call it documentary?, for the first time yesterday evening on BBC. I thought that it was a beautiful image of the time Marianne and Leonard had together over the past 50+ years. Most of the material was not new and could be seen before, But there was some , at least for me, new footage.
One struck me particular.
In one of the last scenes you see Marianne on her deathbed. It is so beautiful but it also felt almost inappropriate to watch since it is such private moment.

Yes, I found this film both beautiful and sad, as life is, as this world is. Did wonder how much contact LC had with Marianne over the years, before the Oslo concert, before that final sad and beautiful e mail. Probably not a lot? But it is good that they communicated before the end.

there exists footage of the last time they were near one another. one can't see marianne, but she was in the front row at oslo, and leonard sang to her. she waited for him for a long time in the green room after the show, but he was delayed in another room with a jewish delegation. sadly, she eventually had to leave; it was well past midnight, but not before telling tour manager mike scoble to give leonard greetings and a hug from her. leonard walked in just a few minutes later, so they missed one another by a fraction. mike gave leonard greetings from marianne, but said he would "hop over" the hug. leonard stamped his foot down and said: "i insist on having that hug!" mike ran out the door, to the sound of much laughter :-)

Footage of Marianne at the 2013 Oslo concert is included in the Nick Broomfield film Geoffrey. I remember Marianne waiting to see Leonard after the show. I thought it was very sad and I was quite upset on her behalf at the time. A lovely lady. I am so glad I had a chance to meet her.

Attention Adelaide Cohenites!
Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love will be showing at the Mercury Cinema, 13 Morphett Street, on Sunday 26th January, 2020 at 2:00 pm.
Tickets link:
https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outl ... reserved=0

It appears to be a one-off screening.
Interestingly, it will be 11 years to the day that we had Leonard's first local concert of the endless tour, at Leconfield Winery.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I was aware of quite a bit of the story, but a lot of the video and film clips were new to me.
I particularly enjoyed seeing Hydra again and seeing how little it has changed.

Although we saw this at a local theater (and loved it, of course), we have just ordered a rental of the DVD through Netflix. It is not available on their streaming account, only on their DVD rental platform.
They have just notified us that that it has mailed. I will let you know if there is anything on the DVD besides the movie itself... which is well and good enough, but it would be cool if they included any extras!
