'Cohen & Cats' exhibition

Post by Andrew (Darby) »

I was in my favourite local secondhand bookshop here in Melbourne yesterday, when the bookshop owner drew my attention to and provided me with this cute intriguing little promotional postcard of an exhibition entitled 'The Obsessions of a Woman of a Certain Age - Cohen & Cats', by Penny Peckham. 8)

Anyway, I'm off to see the exhibition in a matter of hours and will report back to all you cat lovers on the Forum - you know who you are, so I won't name those of you I do know who fall into this category! ;-)

Cheers,
Andrew

Not something to sneeze at... unless you're Leonard Cohen.

Penny’s exhibition was clearly divided into her two distinct “obsessions”, with the Cohen one presented on just one wall and the cats one on the other three walls.

The Cohen part consisted of hung canvases (approximately 40-50 centimetres square) of “fragments of Leonard Cohen poetry/lyrics within colourful abstract fields”, whilst the cats part of the exhibition consisted of a “series of linocut prints of cats taken from a range of Art Historical sources”.

My obviously subjective view is that it was an interesting and unusual exhibition, though there was a bit of a disjunct for me between the two very different types of artistic medium in the same exhibition and space. Leonard’s words excepted (of course), overall, I found the linocut cat prints section more intrinsically engrossing. The Leonard example attached was the most aesthetically appealing for me of that section.

Cheers,
Andrew :)

Well, it sounds slightly disappointing... The cats part looks definitely entertaining, but I'd have liked the two things together... maybe something like cat-covered Cohen? I'm going to use my imagination on this a bit.

Is that as opposed to chocolate-covered Cohen, Laura?
As in dark chocolate-covered coffee beans... delicious in their own right!

Is this going to be followed up by a "Dylan & Dogs" show?
"Gershwin & Gerbils..."?

All right, I'll stop now.

If LC is allergic to cats, it would be a cat-astrophe if he were to come into contact with one. Are there any cats allergic to LC I wonder?
