"Fifteen Poems" eBook (February 14, 2012)

Post by A.Sukitu » Sat Feb 04, 2012 5:33 pm

When browsing the Kindle Store, I looked to see if there was anything new by Leonard.

Available from 14 February (Valentine's Day) is "Fifteen Poems". I cannot find any listing, other than "a selection of poems accompanied by 24 striking and provoctive drawings". The fifteen poems include Death of a Lady's Man, On Hearing a Name Long Unspoken and The Embrace.

nb suspect this is only available to Europe as we seem to have difficulty with US Kindles.

This eBook was published today, apparently not only for Amazon Kindle but for other formats as well. Price is 1,99 US$, while Amazon's version is 3,99.

This selection of poems by Leonard Cohen, one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters in the world, is accompanied by twenty-four of his striking and provocative drawings.

Cohen first made his name as a poet more than half a century ago and since then his achievements in poetry and music have made him an internationally revered figure. These fifteen poems, including “Death of a Lady’s Man,” “On Hearing a Name Long Unspoken,” and “The Embrace,” are drawn from across his remarkable career and appear here for the first time with his illustrations. With its lyrical intensity and sensual immediacy, Fifteen Poems offers a potent distillation of the genre-crossing genius of one of the most admired artists of our time.

Happy Valentine's Day ....

Poems are:

Letter
When This American Woman
These Heroics
Beneath My Hands
I Long to hold some Lady
When I uncovered your Body
Travel
You Have the Lovers
The Poems Don't Love Us Anymore
On Hearing a Name Long Unspoken
Death of a Lady's Man
The News You Really Hate
I Draw Aside the Curtain
The Night Comes On
The Embrace

[poems from Let Us Compare Mythologies, The Spicebox of Earth, The Energy of Slaves, Flowers for Hitler, Book of Mercy; plus from albums Death of a Lady's Man and Various Positions; and the collection of Stranger Music (1993) ]

All books written by Leonard and all albums are listed at the end. Everyman's Library Pocket Poets. copyright Old Ideas LLC 2012. published by Alfred A Knopf, a division of Random House Inc, NY.

included some beautiful art eg after The News You Really Hate is one of "seas of blood/oceans of regret" by Jikan March 28, 2004.

This would be a very beautiful pocket book to keep in a book in a pocket, rather than in the computerised ether...

So do I Lizzy, so do I! The drawings don't look anything like good enough in black & white - though they are still by far and away the nicest thing on my Kindle .....

Do any of the e-readers reproduce the artwork in colour?

Not available to my country OR my smart phone (tried all those links and some of them do recognise my Gmail account and my Samsung smartphone but then the "buy" button says "book not available") ...

I do agree it would be BEAUTIFUL to have it in the form of real book but apparently that will not happen.

Wendy,
I assume that it will be in colour on the new Kindle Fire, but I think that that is still only available in the States at the moment. Should be due in this country soon, though! Probably cheaper to upgrade when that comes out!

Wendy, you can download "Kindle for PC" from Amazon (free), purchase your e-book and read it on your PC.
What I can't understand: how 1.30 GBP became 4.99 USD on Amazon.com. I couldn't buy it from amazon.uk because it's for "UK residents". I had no problem buying from them before :(

Thanks Eva. Already done this afternoon! I remembered after I'd posted that I had Kindle for PC on my laptop and netbook. I haven't used it since I bought my Kindle last Spring but it was great to see the artwork in all its technicolour detail. There doesn't seem to be any limit on the number of registered devices you can download to for £1.30 (I downloaded to 4).
