Dear Leonard,
Like a slightly warm, rich, mature red wine, your words, images, and music fill me with amazing feelings of peace and reassurance, and something of the visionary, raconteur and humourist in you, keeps me smiling too.
So many friends all over the world, who are part of your very extended family, are all feeling very close together right now, as it is nearly your birthday.
We share endlessly the gifts you have given us. We love your deep 'golden' voice, we reminisce about life changing concerts, find inspiration and new insights in your poems, and wonder at your tenacity over the years. Recently, many of us travel the world to meet each other too.
There is a global coming together of so much love and appreciation of your work, and of you, the man, whose wisdom and humanity touches us all.
Thank you Leonard for touching our most imperfect bodies with your mind.Thank you too for teaching us that love is out of our control, as that is a wonderful lesson! You always have the words we are looking for Some of us are finding that we do actually speak Cohen.
You have so enriched our vocabularies with a host of amazing phrases..flecks floating and dancing, tangles of matter and ghost, the gallery of frost, windflowers, and the world of sleepy golden storms...I want to visit them all!!
Now you are 77, it is time to be who you want to be, and be where you want to be, at last!....even if it is up those hills with a shot system..
Chrissie, (photo with you at Weybridge Hotel UK, two years ago..I won't forget!) x
And you want to travel with him
And you want to travel blind
And you think maybe you'll trust him
For he's touched your perfect body with his mind
