Only 4 stars and they're calling the amazing DVD "bizarre" and Cohen's wonderful hair "greasy"... Unbelievable!

:evil:

I agree; however, what do you expect from a publication that thinks The Rolling Stones are the "greatest" rock and roll band of all time???? :shock: I would have expected a five-star rating from Rolling Stone with regard to material from Leonard's early recording period, but to each their own, I suppose. I give Isle of Wight 5 stars and I haven't even seen it yet!!!!!!!

The record as a whole is another matter—I don't think I could ever tolerate all of it. There are three brilliant songs, one good one, three qualified bummers, and three are the flaming s**ts....Rolling Stone review (1968) of "Songs of" - rest of it can be found here... the same reviewer, would later write here about some "inane" lyrics in Famous Blue Raincoat...
....all men will be sailors then....

Wow, thanks for the reality check---the fact that Leonard is my favourite recording artist aside, I think "Songs of Leonard Cohen" is one of the most BRILLIANT albums ever made; rarely has there been such a marriage between excellent lyrics AND music (ie - Stranger Song, One of Us Cannot Be Wrong, Suzanne, Teachers, So Long Marianne, etc.). Some things just never change, I guess. :cry:

Hi One & All,
I have just finished reading Harry Rasky's excellent book,'The Song of Leonard Cohen'. Having enjoyed it immensely I would now very much like to get hold of the DVD, if it exists!! As all my efforts have come to nought I am seeking help, advice, or information as to where I might find it. If anyone has the information I require could they email me at: r.r.workshop@talk21.com
Your help is much appreciated,
Russell

@Russell:
There are some clips on youtube, but I've never seen the whole film, either. And I always thought I was the only one on this board... :roll:

Check out their review for "After the Gold Rush"... and years later they named it as one of the greatest albums ever!
