Wasn't it a lovely way to spend Friday night, a glass of wine, a cigarette and Leonard. Now it's time to go.

I checked this morning to make sure that I had set the programmes to record and the info flipped from 'Leonard Cohen' to 'Neil Young' virtually before my eyes. Originally it was correctly named. No idea why that should happen, as I said earlier probably some sort of gremlin. I forgive the Beeb for this small irritation though because it was all so wonderful.

Surprising to see how much Leonard actually did smoke in those days, he seemed to puff away constantly. Maybe it was just because he was nervous during filming. I had forgotten about that, everybody smoked then, it is easy to forget such things.

Also, it was enlightening to know from Judy Collins that Leonard's tears were real at the end of The Stranger Song and that he was genuinly terrified of performing that first time. who wouldn't be.

I did enjoy 'What Leonard Cohen Did for Me' more than I thought I would. Those involved obviously genuinely loved Leonard and his words and music. Some talking heads can be annoying but I didn't find them so. What did others feel?

I didn't find them annoying either, I agree that they all seemed very genuine - I think the English can be quite irreverent when talking about people they admire, I know I can be sometimes! Far more annoying was that fairly recent Radio 2 programme about Hallelujah, which I had to switch off.

No, no, no - no-one in particular. I just noticed that information gets repeated alot. I've made the mistake myself. :D

I suppose it does - to be fair, it was a night of repeat programmes ;-) :D

Yes, all in all a pleasant enough way to while away a Friday night in - I've got a foot in plaster right now, so my options re where to be are a tad limited!

It was good to see the 1988 documentary again. My eldery VCD copy rarely gets a play. The what-he-means-to-me prog seemed a bit dated already. I can magine many wondering - especially in years to come - who some of the stars were. And the one-hour edit of the O2 show works very well on repeated viewing - especially when 'The Sublime Webb Sisters' bring a new eroticism to I Tried to Leave You!

I enjoyed the Sound of the Sixties compilation the most, though. More from that well would be good to have.

But, after so many lean years, it's great to have Leonard's music out there in a - relatively - mainstream medium. A good use of our licence fees, I'd say.

For anyone who missed last night's programs (or accidently recorded the wrong channel on to their DVD recording device  ) there is a repeat of Live in London and Songs from a Life in the early hours again tonight on BBC4 beginning at 1.30 am.

Well, I enjoyed myself enormously. Perfect Friday evening! I hadn't noticed it in the Radio Times, but a friend of mine (who can't stand Leonard Cohen, incidentally) texted me to say it was on. I missed the opening, but even so, it was fab. I never mind watching repeats of Leonard, either! And I wasn't going to watch the tributes, originally, but stayed anyway: I enjoyed it. And since there was a lot of Leonard in interlarding the tributes, so much the better! :D
Only just found this video of LC:

This one does make me cry.

Anyone know who the guy is who greets Leonard at Hydra as he gets off the Flying Dolphin? Leonard says something to the effect of "strange to meet this man here."

I believe it is Axel Jensen!

The photo of him there looks similar to the guy who greets Leonard and when he says 'Welcome home' it's a Scandinavian accent.

If that's him, then LC's reaction is quite understandable.
