Because of a blind mole, dressed as referee, Australia had to depart from the tournament. They really did well but were beaten by an undeserved penalty 10 seconds before the end of injury time. Lucky Italiens.

Those are the WORST kinds of action to try to reconcile in sports   ! I'm sorry to all our Aussies here :( .

Great description of the ref, Henning  :( .

Henning and Elizabeth, thank you for your words of commiseration - but Italian friends here, don't let this spoil the enjoyment of your team getting through to the quarter finals! :D :( :?

Cheers :)

My bet for today:

Brazil-Ghana 1
Spain-France X

What do you think?

All my Korean colleagues are back to work now - they have no further interest in the proceedings.

My bet is Brazil vs. Germany in the final.

This reminds me of a comment made by a radio commentator here after the U.S. was eliminated... "The U.S. can now stop pretending that they're interested in soccer."

The Italians won with the aid of one poor actor and one reckless umpiring decision.
You can say I'm a bad sport, but I say it was a bad decision.

That's the way it goes. There is always Australian Rules Football where you can be world champions! Even the cricket and rugby - but they are not quite the same.

I know. Iknow.
It is such an unforgiving game. So much frustration and emotion and so little outlet!

It has never been about the winning for me.
I gladly congratulate my opponents when they defeat me. But if they sook and cheat and win and the game allows it, then the game sucks.!
You rarely see a sook in Aussie Rules or Rugby. They would be abused by their own supporters if they did.
Why are they so sooky in soccer/football?
What did they do with their balls????

I want to like the World Game but I am used to a better one!!!
Few sooks. Few cheats. And many goals to satisfy the soul.

I assume you deliberately left out the cricket!

Good point, but I can't claim that it was "deliberate" !

With the departure of Argentine and Brasil it's a European competition now.
