A little known song of an underrated country and western singer. In some ways it reminds me a little of Mr.Cohen.

Ed Bruce - The Devil Inside
Re: Ed Bruce - The Devil Inside
Very cool ! Thanks Tony. I have not heard much of Ed Bruce although I know he has written some well-known songs. I think you have mentioned him before ...
Re: Ed Bruce - The Devil Inside
Hello Kush,
Yes, I did mention him some years ago. I had heard this song in the eighties but could not remember much about it or even who performed it other than that I enjoyed listening to it. It was a nice surprise to eventually track it down.
I have enjoyed listening to your Blaze Foley and Sturgill Simpson links. There seem to be so many good performers who never get the publicity their work deserves.

Hello again Kush,
In the course of my search I also found an advertisement from the eighties which I had never seen. It uses the same tune and there is some interesting information attached too.

Hi Tony,
Texas Tom was interesting - and a little confusing ! I am guessing Texas Homecare is actually in England, correct ?
I was tangentially reminded me of a sushi place I used to go to in NY where the decor, traditional seating arrangements - very low tables with floor seating (no chairs) and requirement to remove shoes prior to the seating area - as well as traditional kimonos worn by the staff would have one believe it was a very traditional Japanese establishment. Except that soon after my first visit I quickly figured out every one of them was speaking in Chinese

Hello Kush,
Texas Homecare, according to Wikipedia, was a Do It Yourself company which operated in the United Kingdom in the last quarter of the twentieth century. I cannot remember seeing the advert as I have limited ambitions in that area!
Your story about the 'Japanese' restaurant made me laugh. Perhaps they were trying to put into practice the saying that ' Nothing is what it seems to be'. A commercial example of Zen thinking.

Hi Tony,
I dont know if you are aware of Conan O'Brien, he often posts these humorous unscipted or loosely scripted clips of his office staff, especially one Mr. Jordan Schlansky - "a crafty fake Italian !"

Hello Kush,
That was very funny. I don't know how they both managed to keep a straight face during the exchange. I suspect it may have been edited as both of them at times look as if they are doing their best not to burst out laughing.
It reminds me of some of the 'Pink Panther' films with Peter Sellers. How the actors managed to say their lines without laughing is beyond me. There are some outtakes where they do give in. I particularly like the excerpt below (which is not an outtake).

That was pretty funny, Tony. I have never actually seen the Pink Panther movies, something else to put on my list. I used to watch a lot of Britcom at one time, not so much in recent years.
