You'll Get Yours Aplenty
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgVDYu5cs0U
The skies are full of dirt and gray
City's kids come out to play
Running in the broken glass
From old deserted windows
Dollar winos fill the streets
Poolroom music's soulful beat
Engulfs the gray and dirty air
In the inner city limits
Children run in hopeless heaps
Along the dirty junkie streets
Where women sell themselves to men
Through ruthless mediators
Sidewalk cracks deep and wide
The children kneel to look inside
For pennies maybe nickels
dropped in passing
They live their lives like others past
The winos drink, the pimps sell ass
Little girls ten years ago
Are older now by twenty
Social change is still just talk
The things you see in urban walks
Should make you sick and lose your lunch
Inside your high rise diners
Make the laws, you own the man
You hold him down where you can stand
One of these days you'll get yours aplenty
One of these days you'll get yours aplenty
One of these days you'll get yours aplenty …

Re: Blaze Foley: Duct Tape Messiah
There's kind of two Blazes, A lot of people saw one or the other. There was the wild one...and then there was the gentle, loving, caring one. I came to know both.
- Townes Van ZandtHe was a friend of the homeless, poor, elder, a real super caring guy. And he would sometimes seem bitter, you know. The only reason for that is he was brimming over with so much genuine love and caring. To see an injustice sometimes it would just put him over to a frenzy, kind of. He couldn't stand to see a poor bag lady on the street. It threw him into a rage, almost. It just came from love. He is one of the most spiritual cats I've ever met: an ace picker, a writer who never shirks from the truth; never fails to rhyme; and one of the flashiest wits I've ever had to put up with.

Covers of his two best known songs...
If I Could Only Fly (Merle Haggard)

You know sometimes I write happy songs
Then some little thing goes wrong
I wish they all could make you smile

Leo - Mandy Mercier
Mandy Mercier is a singer songwriter from Austin, TX, closely associated with Blaze Foley. I am pretty sure this song is not about Leonard Cohen but it almost could have been with references to places in CA (Venice, Burbank, LA) and Austin. I transcribed the lyrics so there could be a mistake or two.

He was standing on a corner
In the middle of the night
With his guitars and his equipment
By an old street light
He had played all night in Ray’s Lounge
He couldn’t seem to drive a car
I pulled up and said Leo
“Are you going very far ?”
And we rode all the way from Venice
To the Burbank Hills
Jokin' and talkin'
Like musicians will
Like anybody will when you got a new friend
And Leo was true right till the end.
I said I come from Texas
He said I know those guys
Like Ray Wylie Hubbard and his wide eye smile
He said I played along with Ray one time
And with Jerry Jeff too
And by the way, Mandy
I would love to play with you
Oh oh Leo where are you tonight ?
Are you getting through the gate alright
Is anybody listening
Does anybody see
Or are you smiling in the darkness
The way you smiled at me.
I loved a big handsome cowboy
He didn't know if I was true
He went and had a talk with Leo
Don’t know what he said to do
But now we got a house in Austin
By a cool dark ????
And we ask about Leo
When they come through from LA
Oh oh Leo where are you tonite
Are you getting through the gate alright
Is there a tour bus up in heaven
Are you riding with the band
Or are you standing on a corner
With a golden guitar in your hand
