Regina Spektor

Post by Manna » Thu Nov 13, 2008 6:17 pm

I have tended to not pay much attention to modern music for many years, but recently, my interests have sought a mix of old, older, oldest and new. I have just discovered this lovely Regina Spektor person. Anyone else diggin' this babe?

I am diggin' this babe. I also don't pay much attention to modern music as I find it largely unimaginitive. But last spring I stumbled upon Regina's music and have listened to little else since. Plus she's eye candy, and her videos are great. She got considerably tamer after signing with a major label for her most recent album; her earlier songs are cram-packed with imagination, talent, frivolity, and beauty. I'm eagerly awaiting her new album, due early (?) next year. I hope the record-company money-mongers don't smother her creativity as they do with so many others....

yes, I like her a lot. My favorite is Soviet Kitsch, as the earlier two, while very good, are at times annoying to me... let's be non-judgmental - a bit too "quirky" at times. Begin to Hope is a good album though I find it to lack the intimacy (which is not the correct word, but I just couldn't figure out what was) of the earlier albums. I've found there to be a lot of good contemporary music actually , as there always have been... it's just that these days it's rarely aired.

Hi,
Regina is great and though she doesn't seem to tour much is well worth seeing live.
I saw her in Liverpool early last year and it was a special night.
Her song 'Better' is/was used in a tv advert during the summer and my grandaughter was proud to have a grandfather with such diverse taste!

Hi,
Regina has a new album (Far) soon to be released and is embarking on a short tour the details of which I can't find (Sepentine sessions, Glastonbury etc)

Here are a few videos featuring songs from the album.

Sign me up with the Regina Spektor fans. I've heard her music through my kids, but it came to life for me when I saw a marvellous dance piece set to one of her songs by local musician/dancer/choreographer Lynn Panting, a dance-schoolmate of my daughter's.

I watched Regina Spektor on the Jools Holland "Later" singing "Blue Lips" on Fri 31 May
and there is a link on youtube. Link below although the computer I am using sometimes blocks youtube links so you might have to look it up yourselves. Its worth a viewing:

Just a follow-up on daveeliver's note. Regina has posted some tour dates for June and July on her MySpace page (link below). You can also hear some songs from the new album there, including Laughing With, Blue Lips, Dance Anthem of the 80s, and Folding Chair. The version of Blue Lips is very similar to that from the Jools Holland show, the link to which was provided above by both daveeliver and ScottM. In case you're not familiar with Folding Chair, in my opinion this new version is overproduced and inferior to the version she did for a demo tape 10 years ago, probably in a single take. There are discussions of both versions in her Facebook group and in the Brümstix forum at http://reginaspektor.com. Also, I just added both versions to my blipstream if you want to compare, at http://blip.fm/MikeMc.

Regina also posted a new video for Eet, which will be on the new album. In case you haven't checked it out since daveeliver posted the link to her video page, it's worth another view.
