Very cool, TineDoes. Especially loved the cello. The singer looks and sounds like a grizzled old country singer from Texas.

Because I recently saw something about 'duende' that included a piece by Nick Cave, I dug out my Best of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds cd (1998), which I have seldom heard, and am loving it, esp. The Ship Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKlaV-9Vzsk. The only other album I have of his is Nocturama so I wonder if I am missing any particular 'must have' from Mr Cave.

Was going to post the wonderful Phil Ochs song, Changes, after Steven’s post about an upcoming film about him, but it's not on youtube. The Sage, from Greg Lake, I always thought similar in feel and words:

Hi Diane,

Here's "Changes": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1yK1c2d ... A257C12101. Yes. it's a wonderful song, as is the one you posted about, "The Sage," by Greg Lake. Found the lyrics to "Changes" elsewhere during the search: http://web.cecs.pdx.edu/~trent/ochs/lyrics/changes.html. The "Changes" song is music I've been listening to lately. Have it on a CD. Didn't easily find the YouTube clip, but saw the clip when further searching for a decent
enough cover of it.

thanks, Steven, good to hear it after all these years.

I am on a trip back to the 80's tonight. Was at this Clapton gig in the NEC Birmingham, front row directly in front of Eric. Marvellous vid of Holy Mother, one of his most poignant songs. Sweet guitar solo:

Hi Diane,

Very nice that you got to that Clapton concert, and front row center too. Enjoyed the "Holy Mother" video you linked
to. Saw that this was also available: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmfIDQGV ... re=related.
Pavarotti and Clapton, couldn't resist watching it.

Since we are on the topic of Eric Clapton I saw him in concert a couple of weeks ago in Dublin. Definitely one of the greatest guitar players of all time!

Here is a link to my review of the concert

The video at the bottom of the review I made of a recording of Layla on the night with the photos I took on the night.

I didn't even realise he was currently touring, Gwen. Nice one! I am currently skint and have had to come to terms with not getting my fix of live music:-( Eric is out of this world on the old guitar isn't he. Cool review and taping of yours, thanks much for linking it. I enjoy Layla in all its guises too:-)

What did you think of the Clapton/Pavarotti Steven? I've come to the conclusion that Pavarotti's operatic tenor didn't mix particularly well with the pop musicians he sang with. Montserrat Caballe's forays into pop were far more appealing to my ear, e.g the Barcelona album with Freddie Mercury.

And speaking of Ms Caballe, how about her wondrous collaborations with Vangelis - so very beautiful:

Hi Gwen,

Enjoyed reading your review of the concert. The photos and the video that they are in are terrific. "Layla" is one of my all
time favorite songs. Thanks. :)

Hi Diane,

The Clapton/Pavarotti "Holy Mother" duet wasn't entirely successful, as your conclusion suggests.
I was left with the feeling that they could have done much better, if given better direction and/or more
practice together. Not faulting Clapton. Will go to the Caballe links later in the week. Just signed on for
a few moments. Long day. Drove hundreds of miles, including a good portion in New York City.

no probs Steven. The best recording of Holy Mother may be the Hyde Park gig with choir. He wrote the song in a 'dark night of the soul' period. It could be a prelude to If it Be Your Will.

Hi Diane,

Heard/saw the Caballe videos. Then went to the Clapton Hyde Park "Holy Mother" concert video. Enjoyed
the videos with preference ascending as I went down the list; The Hyde Park concert video was a grand finale.
