report buxton walking weekend

Post by liverpoolken »

i have been asked to post up a report about our recent walking weekend in buxton…i will keep in short and let the photos do the talking……
earlier in the year a few of the participants of the original leonard cohen walking weekend which took place in barmouth in 2008 decided it would be a good idea to have a reunion somewhere in the UK…so a place was chosen and a date set…. buxton in the beautiful english peak district during the last weekend of september…….

a group of about 20 or so of the original walkers gathered in buxton along with one or two new friends…the group consisted of the usual mix of walkers and non-walkers…
on the friday the walkers set off to walk up grin low hill to solomon’s tower while the non-walkers headed into town to explore the delights of this wonderful little spa town….

in the evening after dinner we gathered in the vault pub for a leonard cohen quiz compiled and overseen by philip and john brought his ukulele along

final night and philip had not only compiled another quiz but he also read us one of his poems and john brought along his guitar...this year on our final night we didn't have an elvis impersonator as we did in barmouth but we did have a gentleman who had won the tv new faces talent show a few years ago and he gave us a fine rendition of what else but hallelujah.

It was a great weekend with wonderful friends full of laughter music poetry walking and even quizzes....ta ken

Perfectly described, Ken!

Didn't we have a marvellous time:-)) Huge thanks are due to you and Margaret for arranging the weekend, xx.

Those cows were so keen to pose with us. And here is an image from the end of the last walk, showing that even when the walkers are no longer out with the animals, the mare is still tracking us...
