This is the poem Greg is referring to:

"Brighter than our sun
bright as the window beyond death
the light of the universe
cleans the eyes to stone

They prayed for lives without visions
free from visions but not blind
they could only drone the prayer
they could not set it down

And windows persisted
and they eyes turned stone
they all had faces like statue Greeks
marble and calm

And what happened to love
in the gleaming universe
they froze in the heart of god
froze on a spear of light"

From: The Spice-Box of earth (Copyright by Leonard Cohen)

The poem is not alone anymore.

You did a super job with your account, Andrew! It's always so great seeing all the photos of people known, unknown, maybe-to-come-to-know. It may sound pie-in-the-sky, but I hope to one day attend your lovely gathering. Thanks for showing and telling us about it.

Love,
Elizabeth

Thanks Elizabeth :D

I think we do enjoy this time together each year - though someone the other day facetiously suggested it felt a bit like Groundhog Day (with some aspects appearing to be the same of late). :?

It'd be great to have you join us one day, anyway! :)

Cheers

Hi Andrew,

I loved reading about your event in Australia! :) And an extra delight were all the pictures too! The fellow who won the CD looks especially happy. Good for you for thinking of doing this 10 years ago! And keeping it going for a decade! Well done!

And is your avatar some sort of Picasso?

Coco

Thanks for those generous words - it is a nice sense of achievement to have had our little event going for this period of time. When I started it I never realised it would have this longevity. I also thought I was some sort of oddball in my musical fixation back then (which I may well be  ) but it has been so reassuring to know, with the advent of the Internet and sites such as Jarkko's, that there is a world-wide community of LC aficionados like me - and it is fantastic to meet you all in one way or another! 8) :D

Regarding the avatar, it is a Paul Klee painting. (He was a Swiss born German painter who came into prominence in the early part of the 20th century, being associated with the 'Blue Rider' wing of German expressionism and teaching at the Bauhaus.)

Cheers :)
