Top Salad
Top Salad
I reach out to you, my dear friends, concerning a matter of the heart and the stomach.
I am a woman of simple tastes and below you see pictured my all-time fav. meal. This Top Salad consists of banana, cheddar cheese, cashew nuts and raisins. It is covered in mayonnaise. I eat this several times a day.
However, I am sad to report that this choice was a major factor in a number of my divorces and now my current (that's a raisin joke) beloved also condemns it as unhealthy and generally "effin' disgusting".
I really want your opinions. I want to hear from Geoffrey as he recently hosted a thread about The Order Of The Deep Fried Tart, so he is clearly into culinary discussion. I want to hear from the Lisco Kid as anyone who has a tattooed leg is a person of discerning taste. I must hear from Cate as I love her. And surely Adam, who works in a Boss shop, must have a view about the cheese and mayonnaise as he is part way through a 500 post monologue entitled "The Dairy".
All others are very welcome to opine (nut) as well
yours sincerely

I find you preliminary view hard to digest. I look forward to your more mature (cheddar) opinion

Re: Top Salad
Unfortunately, Geoffrey's assessment of the appearance of this salad is rather accurate. Well, at least regarding the dog. I have never encountered a leper, let alone his or her vomit. It makes one wonder what sort of company Geoffrey keeps.
Nevertheless, this is not about him -- although I suspect that it would please him should it become so -- therefore I shall bring up your salad again. (Wait, that did not spurt out as intended.)
Have you considered adding celery? It would be a bit like a Waldorf salad, then, if one glanced at it sideways.
Bon Appétit!

Re: Top Salad
In my opine nut the meal may be a bit strange and not that aesthetically pleasing, but it does have a lot of goodness in it without the usual carbs. Certainly not divorce worthy (though eating some things could result in divorce!) and not really unhealthy…Sideways wrote:I reach out to you, my dear friends, concerning a matter of the heart and the stomach.

The banana is high in potassium (medium banana has 422mg) and 3.1g of dietary fibre, and numerous other nutrients... Cheese is high in calcium and phosphorus... Cashew nuts, high in protein, fibre, vitamin E and Thiamin… And raisins, high in fibre, rich in potassium, manganese and iron. The only problem I have with this is the mayonnaise…If I were you Sue I would use yogurt as a dressing, more nutritional value and less calories than mayo! Add the celery, suggested by Lisa, which is deemed one of the healthiest foods in the world and very high in vitamin K and stick a bit of cloud bread on the side and that’s not a bad diet (maybe best not to eat it more than once a day)…
I have to agree with Geoffrey in that it does look like it's already been eaten (though I wouldn't feed it to my dog), but so does most of the stuff you eat in some 'healthy eating' restaurants in London!
Maybe you could try to make it look more appetising Sue? (good luck with that).

Mayonnaise?
Mayonnaise on banana's - that must be a British thing
do you also put mayonnaise on avocodos - what about strawberries?
If you took away the mayonnaise I'd say it sounds tasty enough and Karren's pointed out some good healthy elements you have there but perhaps it's not healthy to eat the same thing several times a day. It's like a competitive ironer who only irons socks.

you're right Lisa, it might be old fashioned but I think a 'salad' should have something green in it.LisaLCFan wrote: Have you considered adding celery?

Re: Top Salad
I'm not aware that Mayonnaise on bananas is a British thing- maybe
Belgium? Perhaps nowhere.
For lunch today I had a cheese and mayo sandwich , washed down by a smoothie blended from Banana, cashew nuts , spinach, and pear. similar ingredients but combined and prepared in different ways .

Re: Top Salad
Cheese and mayonnaise? That sounds disgusting! When I was at University, I had a friend who dipped French fries (that is, chips) in mayonnaise. Also very disgusting.cohenadmirer wrote:...For lunch today I had a cheese and mayo sandwiched...
Actually, I have never liked mayonnaise, and its presence in the "Top Salad" was a bit off-putting. I am with Cate and Karren on skipping that ingredient, at least in this instance. I think the cheese alone would provide a sufficient creamy texture to this salad.
There are places where mayonnaise is not totally revolting, although I vastly prefer a thing called "Miracle Whip" -- it is lighter and zestier, and is used instead of mayonnaise. I do not know its availability outside of Canada. Things such as potato salad, tuna sandwiches, egg-salad, and that sort of thing, taste very good with "Miracle Whip." And I suppose it makes me feel as if I am a bit closer to "god" when I eat something that has obviously been graced by His Magnificence (no, I am not referring to Geoffrey), for it to be named a "miracle".
Mind you, eat enough mayonnaise, and that should help get you closer to "god" in less time!
Re: Top Salad
"I have eaten it twice today and fee". As none of you were sensitive enough to enquire if I was recovered , (didn't you realise I was on the point of collapse as I was trying to write about how I feel?) I was unsure if you deserve another photo of another Top Meal.
Prior to that insensitivity, I was rather moved by your replies. There were cohenadmirer and Karren B unreservedly applauding my salad and the rest of you secretly in awe. The Dairy Queen, Adam, is delaying his support for tactical reasons.
So here be another Suepeciality meal. Please note that the photo is Sideways (for obvious reasons).

Re: Top Salad
With regards to this latest "Suepeciality meal", I think that, aesthetically speaking, the pink-handled spoon clashes somewhat with the orange egg-cup. Perhaps more complementary colours could be chosen for your implements.
As for my supposed insensitivity to your previous state of near-collapse, I had mistakenly thought that you were using the word "fee" in response to Geoffrey's comment that he, "wouldn't touch that even if you paid me". I thought that you were perhaps offering to do so! In defence of my fellow friends, they, too, may have made this erroneous word association.

The cutlery/cupery clashery was chosen deliberately as a provocationery.
I do not accept your apology about ignoring my cry for help. The next tattoo you have on your leg could read "I am very sorry. I have egg on my face for my serious misunderstanding. Pass the mayonnaise please."
