I'm Not a Poet

I'm a Newb...be kind. It needs work...I know.

Waiting for Love to Enter (Ode to Leonard Cohen)

Seeking Love, we passed the Other
in circumstance and time.
Alighting here and there with a lover,
Love was perceived as less sublime
while waiting for love to enter.

I knew you once as the love of a brother,
a musician and master of rhyme.
Your lyrical voice touched a spot
that had never been touched before
while waiting for love to enter.

Does Love Itself live in the Light?
Does Love Itself leave at night?
Does Love Itself go on and on
'til it leaves the open door?

You stirred emotions from the ether
of my youthful thyme.
Afraid of new feeling, afraid to cry,
I ran from you and closed my eyes
while waiting for love to enter.

Does Love Itself live in the Light?
Does Love Itself leave at night?
Does Love Itself go on and on
'til it leaves the open door?

Oblivious to everything, soul all smothered,
believing what I was told,
clamped off from my inner truth,
the meaning of your words hung by
while waiting for love to enter.

Does Love Itself live in the Light?
Does Love Itself leave at night?
Does Love Itself go on and on
'til it leaves the open door?
What say you...
in Light is there any More?

In the night of my life,
I recalled your soft caresses,
amidst the wars and emotional strife,
and over all that the world obsesses
while waiting for love to enter.

Will we ever pass inside each other
in circumstance and time?
Will we ever find our love
that is more than just sublime
while waiting for love to enter.

Does Love Itself live in the Light?
Does Love Itself leave at night?
Does Love Itself go on and on
'til it leaves the open door?
What say you, Mr. Cohen,
in Light is there any More?

I like homage’s, we all have an appreciation for Leonard and it's nice to see how that influence plays out for folks. That first post of something that you've written can be daunting; thank you for sharing this with us.

Your piece has a musical quality to it – is it a song?
