We Were Two

Post by Casey Butler »

The melody has yet to be vetted, so I won't sing it to you. It's a bit traditional corny as well, me having failed thus far to dampen my enthusiasm ... much. I edited it some and it's aimed at music lovers.

"We Were Two"

We were two now we're one the adventure's begun
As we slide down the slippery years
A few moments of passion we wake up old-fashioned
Aware of our final frontiers

We're soaring with eagles
We've flown with the doves
We've rescued the ospreys
We've danced with the wolves
We've counted the moon
With the stars up above
We've labored together
Together we've loved

He said ask it was given the whole thing was driven
By words forming blood sweat and tears
And he gave us a new song so easy to get wrong
'Til time drops the hands from our ears

The mountains before us
He flattens to plains
As valleys beneath us
Arise to his rains
His rivers of fire
We ford hand in hand
There's nothing can part us
He cannot withstand

I remember the timbre a man called September
A chief of the word engineers
Sure it should be forever but every endeavor
Worth doing needs trained volunteers

The clear Little Big Horn
Flows gently nearby
Where soldiers like grasshoppers
Fall from the sky
I may not return
If I ever do leave
But you are my rifle
My pony and me

We were one now we're two don't be sad don't be blue
Nor afraid of their arrows and spears
Just remember September ignited the ember
Of glory that morning of fear

As I review it again, I wonder if the idea that it's referring to two different Septembers is clear enough. I could change it to:

Of glory that morning that year

...To be clearer that I mean the month in that second instance.

Dear Casey,

So good to see your post here it's been such a long time.

Violet hasn't been here in a very long time. She is missed.

Warm thoughts.

Thank you all for the welcome. I deleted my avatar, it looked too much like I was selling something. And I edited again, changing "counted the moon with the stars up above" to "numbered the moon with the stars up above".

I'm glad you like it, anyway. I hope Violet's okay.

Just wanted to move this thread up so all my songs are together. Sorry?
