Poem is back - the Mail Comes

poem back from competing in 400 metre dash or something like that.

The mail comes,

nothing but bills and a note
from an avocado asking me to rip its skin open.
Fucking avocados and their junk mail.

I miss you.

Upstairs cab fare is hidden in a sock, my mother
taught me this. When my father died she turned
the house upside down looking for a check
to pay the funeral home.

The truth?
I miss you – what else matters?

The urn was brass. I imagined it a football,
tucking him under my arm and making
a dash to the car, to the freeway — to anyplace
that wasn’t there.

I think the mailman has stolen your postcards.

~~

I kinda like the poem that was holding it's space so I'll keep it here

apologies
this poem was tired and
has left for the still summer beaches
of cuba ... it is currently lying in the sand
while drinking a margarita
it is 7:30 in the morning - poems
they have no sense of etiquette (or apparently punctuation)

ahhh no the junk is not male - no genders were intended

Revision - Stanza 1

The non gender specific postal employee
leaves nothing but bills (slash that– let’s not bring bill into this)
leaves nothing but requests
for money and a note from a gender neutral avocado, who is
wearing a bikini in the postcard simply because it shows off
their great round curves and not to signify how the avocado views itself
in relation to cultural norms
set by this
> > > > intense > > > sexually . . . polarizing > > > world.
The avocado (holy shit, I spelled it right!) The avocado,
depressed with all these pressures to conform to gender stereotypes set by other fruits,
such as peaches, bananas and lychees
requests assistance with a hara-kiri ritual that would end with me eating it.
I am insulted with the insinuation that my species is only interested in fruit as a consumable
and so toss (in a non sexual fashion) the note into a bin.

(end of stanza 1 - please note the varied line lengths that indicate that this is still a poem despite its babblenishness )

When it comes to fruit, you ought to read Jeannette Winterson.

She does like fruit.

I initially avoided clicking on blatant fruit labeled titles and went for "Written on
the Body" to listen to. She was talking roots and fruit within the first 30 seconds.

actually I really liked this author and am going to look for some audio downloads of her books.

Another person who wrote great food was Pablo Neruda
Ode To The Lemon by Pablo Neruda

From blossoms
released
by the moonlight,
from an
aroma of exasperated
love,
steeped in fragrance,
yellowness
drifted from the lemon tree,
and from its plantarium
lemons descended to the earth.

Tender yield!
The coasts,
the markets glowed
with light, with
unrefined gold;
we opened
two halves
of a miracle,
congealed acid
trickled
from the hemispheres
of a star,
the most intense liqueur
of nature,
unique, vivid,
concentrated,
born of the cool, fresh
lemon,
of its fragrant house,
its acid, secret symmetry.

Knives
sliced a small
cathedral
in the lemon,
the concealed apse, opened,
revealed acid stained glass,
drops
oozed topaz,
altars,
cool architecture.

So, when you hold
the hemisphere
of a cut lemon
above your plate,
you spill
a universe of gold,
a
yellow goblet
of miracles,
a fragrant nipple
of the earth's breast,
a ray of light that was made fruit,
the minute fire of a planet.

Hi guys (is that or isn't that gender neutral?). I finished Written on the Body today : ) , but I didn't like it half as much as I did ten years ago. I left it in a public restroom for someone else to find, even. Lighthousekeeping was my favorite but I can't remember why. How's things?

Gotta love those lazy poems.

That's funny

Poems are often so impatient and you know if you don't listen to them at the very moment they want you to they just storm away.
