Couldn't the great God be our neighbour as well?
I'm pretty sure that for Leonard Cohen He is.
If I were a believer He surely would be for me (because even without believing He sometimes is).

"And are we still leaning
Across the old table"

With a marble tabletop.
On which the Word is written, which I can't read.
And on which my little ego is running barefoot, as a naughty boy who never did his homework.
With his pockets which he doesn't have, since he is naked full of marbles.
(Or is it marvels?) :D

Thanks a lot, LY24, for your most interesting questions and this most interesting discussion.

And best wishes for you, too.
