Cohen's writing
How would you describe Leonard Cohen's writing?

"Brilliant, explosive, a fountain of talent... James Joyce is not dead... He lives in Montreal under the name of Cohen... writing from the point of view of Henry Miller."
This is how the blurb on L.`s first novel, "Beautiful Losers", had it .
Sounds good to my ears, how about yours?
All the best, Catherine.

leonard's writing
... of course this is coming from a person who dislikes reading...
I think Leonard is a sniper with a type-writer.
Millions of people make their poems and put them in drawers.
Leonard is assured of encroaching pedestrians.
They come buy his window, high above, where he sharpens his tongue.
He looks to the pit of his feelings
and draws his bow
while his eye of an eagle
aims at the passing metaphor.
Poetry has been without dignity
on the streets of night and poison gas
for many decades.
With the spirit of a poet
and the heart of a brawler
Leonard writes with spite
and from prayer
like a spy on a ledge
as if waiting
for the miracle
to come.
I don't understand him
but he's as naked as a jaybird.

Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists.
Herein lies the peace of God.

He is a quite amazing writer. He puts himself on the page, like T S Eliot's line from Prufrock: 'like a patient etherised upon a table'; helplessly exposed and vulnerable.
Only just found this video of LC:
