Re: What would you cook for Leonard?

An interesting question. Obviously, time of year and weather would have much to do with my decision. For a cold winter like the one we've been having, I think I'd go with Emeril Lagasse's Mullagatawney Soup or Cinncinnati style chili (ingredients include chocolate and cinnamon.) I am a Yank, so I be...

I disagree. Intentionally, or unintentionally, I think it makes just that point: intent.

Thanks for this. I might not make it to Church today -- necessary repairman door-opening may intervene (I know -- on a Sunday!) But these certainly give me plenty to contemplate.

Re: The Other Leonard Cohen Album

Thanks. But if Cohen's label should want to be paid I'll be happy to fork over some $. It would only be fair.

Re: Leonard Cohen songs favoured by vicar

Gee, thanks for sharing this. In my tiny, West Virginia congregation (we are ALMOST as far off the Anglican beaten track as one can be,) our choir has seen minor controversies between more formal, traditional high church compositions and the more effusive, popular gospel songs. Some new members talk...

Re: The meaning behind of 5th verse of Hallelujah

Thanks Kwillls et al, for any and all compliments. I'll eat up every single one (with a happy burp to myself.) When I was first immersing myself (and everyone who rode in a car with me) into Cohen-land, I asked my husband what he thought about this "kitchen chair" line. "Yep, that's w...

Re: The meaning behind of 5th verse of Hallelujah

It's the whole love means vulnerable, but I don't want to be vulnerable, I just want to "win" attitude towards romance. I want all the thrills of being in love, but none of the risks. You catch my eye, I do some active flirting, then I've got you where I want you: you have gone under for m...

Hope you have a PT as good as mine. Mine is one I love to hate, or is it hate to love? Whichever. I got better.

Re: The poetry of "Ten New Songs"

We're the dust that can think. Reality is when we realize that we are somewhere between being "tangled up with them/ In formless circumstance;" AND the recipients of a love which "goes on and on'" a love which has given us a "name," and the grace which sometimes lets us...

Re: The poetry of "Ten New Songs"

A note on an earlier topic on this thread: "But I had to do it drunk" I see this is not so much a specific reference to Cohen's own life as a more general observation on our shared challenge of achieving perspective on our shared mortality. We are creatures of limited time and space but we...

Re: LEONARD RESCHEDULES EUROPEAN PERFORMANCES DUE TO INJURY

Exactly, Bonnie. Thank G~d Leonard only needs to endure [and I do mean endure] the p.t. regimen. I hope he knows that the p.t.'s really DO like him... it all too often seems like they don't, after you've clearly told them you CAN'T do it... and they continue to make you do it, anyway. I've never ha...

Bridge Over Troubled Waters single

Over at ITunes (and other places? don't know?) there is this S & G single sung by Mary Blige and Andrea Boccelli which is well worth the price of $1.29-- oh, and proceeds go to the Red Cross for Haiti relief. What's not to like?
