Re: Hallelujah on UK X-Factor (all threads merged here)

John E You write so beautifully. In my pantheon of great songs an all-time favourite is Lily The Pink. I never realised it once reached Nº 1 - good year that must have been. Roger McGough is wonderful. (that story where the man takes a deep breath, puts it back, and closes the window...) I discovere...

Re: And the X-Factor winner is...

I've never been a 'purist' - just passionate about LC's music for 30 years. Hallelujah means a lot to me - that and FBR have a direct line to loss and suffering in my own life and always move me. Tonight I expected to be horrified - the Cowell Power Ballad X Factor blender is surely about as close a...

Re: New Live Album & DVD

Hello Circe Just a quick suggestion for you: you're more likely to get a reply to a question as specific as your one about the poem if you create a new thread with the subject clearly identifies - so people who may know the answer are more likely to spot it (if you're lucky, the Fount of All Knowled...

Re: Leonard article from Brighton Argus (December 1st)

Dearest Henning Well clearly, you and I have found the way to have only Extraordinary days, since we apparently spend 100% of our time, day and night, both awake and asleep, on this forum. So that's the secret of a good life then - LC days in an LC daze. My Zanzibari friends would not understand, be...

Re: Leonard article from Brighton Argus (December 1st)

So, Henning, you do admit the others are only ordinary... hmm, what a shame! I don't do 'ordinary'. Life's too short. I was hoping someone would jump onto this thread and say, 'but what about xxx... And xxx? Their concerts are just as marvellous! So I could expand my list of concert heroes... (who a...

Re: Leonard article from Brighton Argus (December 1st)

For those of us interested in words - with how much or how little originality they can be used - it's fun reading the endless stream of ecstatic reviews of the tour, to see the new ways journalists come up with to convey the sublime, the grace, the living legend, the humility, the quasi-sacred commu...

Re: London RAH, 17-18 November 2008

Paula : Sorry I was so deep in conversation the other day - I was a bit overexcited when talking to Jarkko and afterwards felt bad for incessantly babbling ... I later apologised, but only to Henning, as Jarkko was no longer around. Next time, I hope to meet you properly. I remember seeing you with ...

Re: Meet up - Royal Albert Hall - Troubadour

Thanks for the photos, Caren! They're great. I hope you and Hans got home safely, and I hope to see you again sometime soon. It was a nice meet-up and really made the concert more enjoyable for me, to have met you all beforehand. Best to you both and all the Troubadours, Habie x

Re: London RAH, 17-18 November 2008

Couldn't introduce myself 'that night' (RAH, Monday) due to the minor inconvenience of not actually being there. I had to work all evening, hence choice of Tuesday for the concert. It would have been a pleasure to meet/greet you. Another time (shall we nip over to New Zealand, then?) x How ARE we go...

Re: Birmingham NEC, 22 November 2008

The exact words (which I recorded on video and audio) were : "This is a Union Hall and we're Union men. It's getting chilly out there so don't catch a cold. And be well, be lucky, and may the blessings find you in your solitude. And until we meet again, God Bless, and thanks."

Re: London RAH, 17-18 November 2008

The coolest thing about really witty people, Like Mickeys of One, is that you never know if they're laughing WITH you or AT you.. but that's the fun of it, my bird-hating friend... to keep the suspense. In any case, it's good to be laughed at too, because in a Leonard-inflected world, self importanc...

Spotted - Zanzibari review of the Forum and Tour

Following the African press cuttings quoted in the thread re Bad Reviews of the Fall Tour - did anyone spot this article in the Zanzibar Chronicle of Culture, not just of Leonard's tour but also of this Forum itself? To quote from memory : "I want to tell you about a Website Forum, or non-material t...

Re: London RAH, 17-18 November 2008

Wow, Henning - well spotted re Uriah Heep inventing the line 'She Came to Me One Morning'! Is their no end to your encyclopaedic musical knowledge? Guess we must accept the unspoken rule that Leonard Does Not Commit a Sin, and assume that he and Uriah Heep's lyricist came up with the line separately...

Re: London RAH, 17-18 November 2008

Lieber Henning, I didn't say Germans don't have a sense of humour, only that it's a common PERCEPTION around here that they don't! Not the same thing at all. Anyone who reads your exchanges on this website with Liverpool Ken for example, will know that Germans in fedoras from the Frankfurt area most...
