Re: Before You're Sixty-Four.
It seems to me that the original "64" thread has been spliced with other poetry/individuals. On message boards like this,I cannot separate the strands; best to return to the poem (which has no mistakes in the title, rather the content 8) ). Geoffrey, you are right to address basic issues like the sp...

Re: A Request for Mr. Cohen
This is a wonderful idea/project :D Everyone should have the opportunity to hear Leonard read "How to speak Poetry", "My Poor top ten", "Democracy", "In the eyes of men", and readings from his first book of poetry, "Let us compare mythologies". There is so much spoken material which needs to be coll...

Re: New York, February 19, 2009 - Beacon Theatre Show
Like Tom Sakic, I also viewed the "You Tube" link. The vast majority of Canadians, Europeans, Australians and others who have seen Leonard Cohen performing live since last May did not attend the Beacon concert in New York; yet "First We Take Manhattan" sounds as fresh/vibrant/committed as it was whe...

Re: Special Concert in New York
Jarkko,
Will the NY concert be televised?
I hope so, for it will be the only means by which the vast majority of Leonard's fans can share in what promises to be a fab night out......you lucky New Yorkers!
Andrew.
***Unfortnuately it will not be televised. / Jarkko***

Re: A Very Special Announcement Coming
And here was I thinking that there might be another book of poetry .....mind you, given Leonard's track record for writing this comes as no surprise . 8) So it's a concert? Is that it ? If so, why can I not attend? I've answered my own question  Having fun in the credit crunch, Andrew.

Dear Natalie, MAZEL TOV !!!!! :D So you are a mother now: I accept your apologies for lack of commentary over the summer 8) Natalie, get real: from what you've revealed there's so much light in your life you don't need your husband to chase after light-bulbs. Let it be. I'm still writing :!: , and, ...

Re: Christmas comes
My Grandad had a wooden leg: it wasn't his own, well how could one be born with one? It came from a chair, given to him by an old "flame" from Norway. Over the years...decades....the chair survived in the family, until he decided to break it up and set it on fire. One leg remained, only to be stolen...

Re: Campaign: Get Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah in the UK charts!
This one's for Natalie, surely the same Natalie who wrote "Leonard's Guitar" and kindly invited me to include one of my own poems in a special issue of the Victoria Writers Society magazine, "Write Away". It was a Leonard Cohen tribute, which also included the first publication of Leonard's "This Is...

Re: Scotland
Good G*d!
Scotland has spawned an ethnic confluence of differences
Andrew.
P.S. I met Billy Connolly in 1969, when he was with a band called "The Humblebums".
P.P.S. Scotland is one of those poems which, when I read it, makes me think ,"I wish to f**k I could have written that".

Re: Campaign: Get Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah in the UK charts!
This is from "Ten New Songs"....
"I bite my lip
I buy what I'm told
from the latest hit
to the wisdom of old."
(In My Secret Life)
I guess Leonard summed it up ....years before the world tour, the KL court case, the X-Factor, and all the other stuff.

Re: Campaign: Get Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah in the UK charts!
In reply to John, it hasn't meant anything since the late 60s/early 70s.(sic) Excuse me, but the top twenty meant a lot in the 50's: in fact the last time three versions of the same song to make the top twenty was in 1955. The song was "Unchained Melody", and Jimmy Young's version hit no.1 Ten years...

Re: Campaign: Get Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah in the UK charts!
I phoned my son, Daniel, and told him of this crazy plan: he's up for it
I have neither the intelligence nor the technology: it's up to others
What a time for Leonard
Andrew.

Re: Hallelujah on UK X-Factor (all threads merged here)
I still want to know.. who gets the money from this? The "physical" single is released in a couple of hours from now. The label is "Syco". Who owns this "label"? Simon Cowell? I want Leonard to gain everything he possibly can from this latest unfolding of one of the greatest songs written in the las...

Re: Hallelujah on UK X-Factor (all threads merged here)
Could someone (maybe Jarkko?) please clarify if Leonard will recieve song-writing royalties from the sales of Alexandra'a "Hallelujah"? In a previous post on this merged thread, it was suggested that a subsidiary of Sony (Syco?) had the rights to the song and that Simon Cowell had more than his fing...

Re: Scotland
Mat, thanks for your reply: Scotland clearly struck familial chords!
Byron, what was the competition? How come Cate won a prize ?
And another thing: Scotland contains so much humour: it depends on how it's read..in public.
